Karnathra (/Kar-nah-thruh/)

"She Who Beats the Heart to Stillness"

The Dread Mistress

Karnathra is a deity of torture and vengeance. The hearts of her followers burn with a love for the art of pain and a hatred for those who shun them. Poetically, then, Karnathra's symbol is the beating heart.   Karnathra's devout clerics are her tormentors, and her temples are any place where tools of torture display. In particular, victims of Karnathra's clerics will often have their hearts removed post-mortem and placed upon an altar in her honor. Any building with such an altar can be considered her holy site. Karnathra's followers belong to various illicit cults, but they also make up the ranks of executioners, interrogators, and assassin's guilds that serve various militaries.     Karnathra's writings are contained in the Libre Liberatio alongside those of Khal and Jix, her two lovers. Karnathra is the mother of Idolax, produced through her tumultuous love-hate relationship with Cinakath. She has a particularly contemptuous relationship with Pyriel, who forever attempts to redeem her, forcing her to stoop ever lower to break his hopes. Karnathra also despises Vyr for his weakness.
