Fraeyr (/Frehr/)

"She Who Mothers Many Springs"

The Everspring

Fraeyr is the deity of life and cleanliness. Her devout worshippers can be identified by their crowns of leaf or flowers; lesser followers often simply entangle flowers into their hair. Most prefer to live in the wilds, tend to wear plain or minimal clothing, and adopt personal vows to demonstrate their love for her creation. Fraeyr is represented as a rabbit, specifically a red-furred one, and is particularly associated with springs of water. She is also associated with sleep, but not dreams, which are the realm of Maer; narcoleptics are sometimes thought to be blessed or cursed by her.   Fraeyr's followers tend to refer to each other by the names of animals, along with a descriptive adjective. These names can be self-determined, but most commonly they are given by those who initiate one into her faith. As many followers are Druids, the term is sometimes used to refer to all devout followers of Fraeyr. Fraeyr's centers of worship are referred to as groves, and dedicated groves exist in most parks and city gardens. Fraeyr is typically honored by humming free-form songs, much like the songbirds that bring the morning dew.   Fraeyr's holy text is regarded to be the Rabbit Tales of The Fables, which have several variations owing to their origin in oral tradition. Fraeyr's favorite lover is Narra, who wakes her from her sleep. She also consorts with Yerev, Cinakath, and several minor gods. Her father is Ah'yelan and her mother is Maer. Her primary rival is Khal.

Life Vows

Fraeyr's followers will typically take on a life vow upon their initiation into the faith, which they seek to maintain to the best of their abilities throughout their life. Life vows demonstrate one's respect for the life that Fraeyr has created through some arbitration restriction upon oneself. Both veganism and strictly eating meat are common life vows; refusing to use tools or shelter made of non-living material is another. Violating a life vow is not a critical failure of one's faith, as Fraeyr does not expect perfect worship, and a good faith effort is typically viewed as sufficient. Furthermore, violating a life vow unknowingly (such as due to another's deception) is not considered a violation at all.

Health and Hygiene

Cleanliness, in Fraeyr's sense, refers particularly to good health and the staving off of disease. Nonetheless, this is heavily associated with literal cleanliness - especially at springs of water considered to be blessed by her. Deepsprings are particularly holy sites amongst her followers.

Impermanence of Shrines

Shrines to Fraeyr are typically makeshift, built from twigs, fur, and small stones. They are specifically designed to be destroyed due to the force of natural processes, as the repetitive act of rebuilding them is viewed as a symbolic act representing the waking of Fraeyr from her sleep. Furthermore, these shrines are always built near a source of water, as they should not be entered before one takes a thorough bath.
