The Forbidden Forest
The Forbidden Forest is a place of peril and significant interest. For thousands of years, the region was known to ancient civilization as the La Brea Pits. Black hot sludge accumulated here and traps wayward creatures and humans alike.
The dense tropical forest is no haven. Dangerous creatures and mutant patrols/caravans travel frequently in the region serving one of the Seven Citadels of Sorcery , Vannow.
Geography
While crossing the basin, our scouts reported having seen some geysers of tar issuing from the ground like springs; it boils up molten, and the water runs to one side and the tar to the other. The scouts reported that they had come across many of these springs and had seen large swamps of them, enough, they said, to caulk many vessels.
Fauna & Flora
The Pits fossilized beast and plants alike, providing a record of eons ago. The forest is thick with deciduous trees, Spanish moss, palms, and long grasses.
Snakes, birds, and vermin are the most common creature you will encounter, but the mutant creatures are more aggressive.
Giant mutant humanoids such as Cyclops, Orges and The Man Ape has been reported in the area.
Carocs - Croc Men and Tiger men are frequent hires by Argoth to escort trade caravans.
Natural Resources
The pits contain fossil vertebrate material that is well preserved, with little evidence of bacterial degradation of bone protein. Argoth retrieves the fossilized bones for another powerful Wizard, but more information is needed to see what is so special about bones.
Methane gas escapes from the tar pits, causing bubbles that make the asphalt appear to boil. Asphalt and methane appear under surrounding old decaying buildings and require special operations for removal to prevent the weakening of building foundations. Argoth does extract the Methane and petroleum for fuel of his patrols.
A recent discovery of the region is that the forbidden forest saps Particle 902 from the air. Technomancy fades rapidly here and Argoth commands all citizens avoid the Forbidden Forest.
