Personal history
Johan was born in the wilds of what was once Delaware and what would eventually become part of the Catholic Nation. He was raised a nomad with a small tribe of elves, until the tribe split up when half of them joined with the Catholics. Johan and his parents fled westward and soon came across a small research team from the Hartram Institute. The Hartram Institute took the family in as initiates, and Johan quickly climbed the ranks of the organization. His efforts expanded the Hartram Institute beyond what they could have hoped, obtaining funding through deals with budding city-states. He became the director after fifty years of service, in the year 122. His parents never amounted to much, choosing instead to live their lives in New San Francisco.
