Personal history

Born to a fisherman father and a maid mother, Richard Gussman never had formal schooling. He started working on his father's fishing boat at age 6 and worked with him until age 15 when he joined a merchant ship as a sailor. During one journey the ship where he was stationed was raided by pirates and young Richard was impressed by their "take-all" attitude and might in combat. This led to him attempting to join a pirate crew on the next port he docked at. He was promptly arrested for attempt to join a pirate vessel and given 2 years in prison. This led, however, to him making friends with a few captured pirates who taught him all about "pirate life". So when he was released he immediately joined a pirate crew. For the years following, he occupied himself creating a reputation as a vicious fighter, earning him the nickname "Bloody Reggy". He raised through the ranks in the ship and at age 32 became captain of the Wandering Glory, a ship he and a few friends from his old crew stole from the Navy. He then proceeded to hire, recruit and in a few cases force people to join his crew, now named The Bloody Skull Raiders. In a short time he became one of the most notorious captains in the Red Lake and his crew feared by navies and traders alike.
