Shadow Corruption

Gaining Shadow Corruption

How do I gain Shadow Corruption?   You can gain Shadow Corruption through various means, such as being in close proximity to powerful Shadowfiends, demons and other creatures of the Shadow, or by touching or being near powerful Shadow artifacts. Your DM will adjudicate when you gain Shadow Corruption, each exposure dealing between 1-3 points depending on the severity of the exposure. Corruption gained before the 1st stage is reached can be healed by visiting any shrine dedicated to either Arishanne or The Light, or by the spells Greater Restoration or Lesser Restoration in addition to any local Priest, Cleric or Druid.

1st Stage: You attain the 1st stage of Shadow Corruption after gaining 10 points of corruption.

2nd Stage: You attain the 2nd stage of Shadow Corruption after gaining 25 points of corruption.

3rd Stage: You attain the 3rd stage of Shadow Corruption after gaining 50 points of corruption.

4th Stage: You attain the 4th stage of Shadow Corruption after gaining 100 points of corruption.

Final Stage: You attain the final stage of Shadow Corruption after gaining 200 points of corruption.

Shadow Corruption Stages

Stage 1: You have become corrupted by the Shadow and are tainted by its grasp. This Shadow enhances your abilities with its power, granting you an amount of Shadow Corruption Points equal to 1 per level. These points are refreshed upon a Long Rest. You can use one of these points to add 1d6 to an Attack Roll, Saving Throw or Ability Check and must be declared before the result of the roll is decided. Each time you use this ability, you gain an additional point of Shadow Corruption. You cannot use this ability more than once with each use. This stage of Shadow Corruption can be healed using the spells Greater Restoration or Lesser Restoration, or by a local Priest or Cleric. The 1st stage of corruption is detectible with the use of the spell Detect Corruption.
Stage 2: You have become even more corrupted by the Shadow and have fallen further under its domain. The Shadow further enhances your abilities with its power, granting you an amount of Shadow Corruption Points equal to 2 per level. These points are refreshed upon a Long Rest. You can use one of these points to add 1d6 to an Attack Roll, Saving Throw or Ability Check and can be declared after the result of the roll is decided. Each time you use this ability, you gain an additional point of Shadow Corruption. You cannot use this ability more than once with each use. This stage of Shadow Corruption can be healed using the spell Greater Restoration or by a local Priest or Cleric. The 2nd stage of corruption is detectible with the use of the spell Detect Corruption.
Stage 3: You have become very corrupted by the Shadow, beginning to fall under its control. The Shadow grants you even more power, granting you an amount of Shadow Corruption Points equal to 2 per level. These points are refreshed upon a Long Rest. You can use one of these points to add 1d8 to an Attack Roll, Saving Throw or Ability Check and can be declared after the result of the roll is decided. You can also use two of these points to add 1d6 of Shadow damage to any Damage Roll. Each time you use either of these abilities, you gain an additional point of Shadow Corruption. You cannot use more than one of these abilities at once, and not more than once on each attack or use. You also now gain permanent disadvantage on Saving Throws against Shadowfiends and other Shadow creatures and they have resistance to your attacks and spells. This stage of Shadow Corruption can only be healed by a very powerful Priest or Cleric. The 3rd stage of corruption is detectible with the use of the spells Detect Corruption and Detect Magic.
Stage 4: You have become almost completely corrupted by the Shadow, and have fallen almost fully under its control. The Shadow grants you an extreme amount of power, granting you an amount of Shadow Corruption Points equal to 3 per level. These points are refreshed upon a Long Rest. You can use one of these points to add 1d8 to an Attack Roll, Saving Throw or Ability Check and can be declared after the result of the roll is decided. In addition, you can use this ability to grant power to your allies, but at a cost. Each ally you assist with this ability gains one point of Shadow Corruption. You can also use two of these points to add 1d6 to any Damage Roll. You can now use more than one of these abilities at once, and more than one on each attack or use using a Bonus Action. You also now automatically fail any attempts by Shadowfiends or Shadow creatures to control or manipulate you using magic, and any radiant damage you would deal is instead dealt as Shadow. Creatures of the Shadow also do not automatically recognize you as an enemy. This stage of Shadow Corruption cannot be healed by any known means and is detectible with the use of the spells Detect Corruption or Detect Magic.
Final Stage: You become consumed by the Shadow, and are fully under its control. This stage of Shadow Corruption cannot be healed and is detectible by any creature with a felt presence.
