Southern Trenches

The Southern Trenches are best described as an alien place. Similar to the The Sickle of Life in it's oddity, the Southern Trenches have a completely different feeling and system then The Sickle. The Trenches compose of a deep - sea area in the Southern Kaiyocean Ocean, of which are some of the deepest trenches in the world. The trenches require more than a little bravery to approach, filled with odd creatures and little light until the "entrance" is reached. Until this point, the trenches appear to be a dark and dreary place - but once this magical and biological barrier is crossed, the Trenches become alive with bioluminescence. Blues, yellows and white light radiate from the trenches in a mystical light show, revealing a complex system of people and creatures in an odd ecosystem both manipulated and natural.
Originally a merfolk settlement, the Trenches have visitors and residents of all races due to Magi-Mechanics. Long ago, due to the settlement of the Southwest Shoals, the people accidentally discovered each other due to a chance interaction under the waves, leading to over a millennium of interaction. The Southwest Shoals and Southern Trenches have an alliance that is unshakable, something unfathomable to most other states - the unique general nature and society of the Shoals show the easygoing nature and importance of family of the Shoals, and how they would never betray their most stalwart allies. This was not the case from the get - go, however. Shortly after discovery and interaction, the Shoals and Trenches engaged in a 100 year period of hostility and defensiveness on both sides. The reason for this is lost to time, but nowadays the people in the Trenches could not imagine life without trade and interaction from the Shoals.
The trenches themselves compose of about three major trenches, dubbed the Uluaki trench, Hoko Trench, and the Fakamuimuitaha. These trenches are all a unified culture, but each produces something different for the Trenches. The Uluaki produces most of the food of the Trenches - Seaweeds, squishy corals, and micro-organisms that provide nutrition create a very odd farming system that is sustainable throughout generations. the Hoko Trench produces most things - art, finished food products, building materials and certain kinds of plastics only possible at the depths of the trenches. The Fakamuimuitaha trench is a sort of trade center, as well as being a more broad commercial district - shops, merchants and apartments carved in the walls light the Fakamuimuitaha Trench. The Trenches export little, providing most of what they need in their own state, but they do import some foods and Magi-Mechanics from the Shoals, while sending out some region-specific delicacies and their world-renowned plastics. The trenches are apparently overseen by a thing known only as The Lifelight. Very little is known about who or what this may be, but it appears to have guided the trenches for millenia.
