Qilin

Qilin are wonderous, heavily magical beasts. While other families of Drakes have mixed amounts of Mana, Qilin universally have a great amount. Because of this, Qilin horn (which all species have), in particular is one of the most sought after materials for important medicines, Magi-Mechanics, and research. Despite this, killing Qilin is generally seen as distasteful, especially by Terr'Ainans. Unlike Dragons or Wyverns, Qilin are usually peaceful and don't generally bother humanoids. Some species, such as Dwarf Qilin have even integrated within human society. Somewhat thankfully for those with a need for Qilin horn (Not as much for the Qilin), there is a common way that Qilin hunting is excused, even seen as noble.   As Qilin grow older, they become more susceptible to a condition called Mania. Mania takes the peaceful nature of Qilin, and turns it violent, unpredictable and hostile to almost everything that moves. Maniacal Qilin are a problem, not just to humanoids, but nature and the enviornment in general. In ancient myths, an ancient Soulguide Qilin inflicted with Mania is said to have created the very first Desecrated Land in Terr'aina. Tree-Splitting Qilin driven to Mania can mow through entire forests in days, and Windchime Qilin affected have been recorded to cause widespread hysteria from kilometers away. When a Qilin becomes Maniacal, it becomes viewed as a mercy to slay them. It's because of this that the Qilin Hunters are so prestigious, and have so much protocol within them.
