Druids & Shamans

"Let's see who passed the herbal science entrance exam this year," said Professor Turnipbeard, before he rained a few fire herbs onto the individual paperus sheets that were in front of the examinees, and some of the exam documents were in green Flames and smoke went up. "All those whose paperus are still alive are one round further. Unfortunately, the rest did not pass the entrance exam. Maybe they'll try again next year."

Lanis Turnipbeard, professor of herbalism at the University of Tirvox ad Coimi-

Druids and shamans are the most important professional groups for dealing with earth magic in general and the healing powers in particular. Around 4,800 BEC, after the goblins first experienced earth magic, they realized the importance of collecting the discoveries and passing the practices on to later generations. In the beginning, wise older goblins were chosen for this purpose, who established, tested and wrote down teachings on earth magic. The Druid Circle was founded in 5,150 BEC, from which the Shaman Guild emerged as part of the circle around 5,700 BEC.

Similarities in training

Regardless of whether a goblin later pursues the career of a druid or a shaman, the first two years of their training are the same. Future acolytes will not be admitted to the entrance examination until they are 20 years old at the earliest.

In the exam, one task must be passed for all five earth magic sub-areas. Only those who have already started to work more intensively with earth magic after the initiation rite pass the test, as the tasks do not correspond to the usual school material.   In the first two years, the training focuses on all five areas. Male and female goblins are trained.

Female goblins have greater talent for growth, healing, and crystal magic. Male goblins, on the other hand, achieve excellent results in earth and stone magic. But this doesn't mean that female or male goblins can't also shine in other areas.   After the first two years, the eleven have to take a second exam, which determines whether they will continue their training as a druid or shaman. In this exam, the only thing that counts is your talent for the individual areas and not how much you have learned in the last two years. The examiners recognize who is suitable as a future druid or shaman and the examinees usually accept the result.

Druids

Further training to become a druid takes another four years to intensively study earth, stone, crystal and growth magic. After each year, the sub-areas are completed with a practical exam. The higher the score, the higher the chances of advancement in the Druid Circle.   Trained druids are divided into different classes depending on their experience.   1After training, goblins are 1st class Druids and are placed under Druid Masters with 3rd class experience who support them in their work for the next two years.
2As a 2nd class druid, it is possible to open a druid shop for the sale of all kinds of earth magic resources. An exam must also be taken in order to acquire a sales license. The license can be revoked if the rules of the circle are violated.
3Druids 3rd class and higher are able to train future Druids. Many 3rd class druids work at common schools or are clan druids and initiate the young goblins into the basics of earth magic after their initiation rite.
4Druids of the 4th class accompany offices in the circle and teach at the universities for earth magic.

5The highest rank is 5th class druids. They are among the highest leaders of the Druid Circle.

Shamans

The further training to become a shaman, on the other hand, only lasts two years, during which healing magic is intensively studied and practiced. This is a clear difference to Druid training, as the training is not just pure theory, but also involves gaining practical experience. At the end of the training, the acolytes take a written and a practical exam.   There are only three classes for shamans.

1Many trained 1st class Shamens return to their hometowns after the exam to start their work. They set up small healing rooms or help the oldest shamans in their clan.
2Shamans of the 2nd class work in sanatoriums in larger cities or teach at universities.

33rd class shamans supervise the exams at the universities and are among the leaders of the shaman guild.

Great overview of the process of becoming a druid or shaman. I'm looking forward to seeing more about them in the future. :)
