Milliel Organization in Dwell | World Anvil

Milliel

Milliel is the smallest of Dwell's countries when it comes to territory, but the second largest when it comes to population (and debatably the most influential). Dominated primarily by elves and men, this country is most famous for its dominantly Transitionalist population--however, this religion has little to no influence over this country's government. It is also quite famous for holding some of the most thorough historical and scientific records in various libraries. Naturally, this makes information one of their primary exports, and has made them the diplomatic "titan" of this world.   Geographically, they also control some of the Divide, but have refrained from building any megastructures to connect their lands to those of Orthin (and, of course Mos Leferrin) for the sake of maintaining peace. Still, being the main barrier between the forces dominating the eastern and western lands (who have a sorted past, which has created some religious/political tension) makes this diplomatic dominance essential to their survival as a nation. Especially when one of those "forces" is the imperialistic transcontinental nation of Orthin.

Culture

Milliel's culture centers largely around intellectualism thanks to their deep ties with Transitionalism as well as influence from simple elven culture (as a result of its high elven population). However, for the most part, anyone is free to do/say/be/believe however they wish--even tolerating some small-scale violence from a few Absolutist extremist groups. They were, of course, punished as the law dictates, but the cultural repercussions and popular view of Absolutism as a religion remained largely unaffected. This is likely an attribute of their exceptional education system and strong network of social programs designed to educate the public.   However, the downside to this culture is their dismissal of individual connections. They empower understanding, generosity and other noble practices in the name of large-scale advancements to society while viewing loyalty, family and individual connection as secondary to this. It's not that, as a whole, they aren't aware of this sacrifice. They merely see it as their responsibility to pick up the slack of other nations, who focus disproportionately on indulgences or traditions. People who sacrifice their contribution to society for personal pursuits are treated equally in every official way... but generally seen as freeloaders or wasted potential by their peers. This is normal in elven culture, but less so in human or dwarven culture, which is why this country is largely made up of elves.

Public Agenda

Their agenda is to broker peace through education. Again, this is another facet of elven culture as well as Transitionalism, which is deeply rooted in the population and, as a result, the overall national agenda. That said, they can be occasionally aggressive towards Orthin, flexing a small but effective military whenever the imperialistic nation begins to threaten their borders. This is very much not a part of elven or transitionalist culture, even if it is likely the only reason they are still a nation.

Territories

Located in the middle-eastern portion of Bane. Like all countries of this world (there are only three), its territory is quite massive. Despite its deceiving shape and division, (both geographic and geopolitical), this world is actually quite massive with a population around 1.75 - 2 billion. Countries are only able to exist on this scale mostly because of the "divine guidance" of deities--specifically Enna and Ryn.

Military

As mentioned before, Milliel's military is very small in proportion to its neighbors, but is still incredibly effective. While it could not withstand the full force of Orthin's military, which is the most powerful in the world, it could easily handle anything they might send across the Divide.

Religion

Religion has a massive influence over nearly every organization in this world, large or small, and Milliel is no exception. However, most religions in this world (especially Transitionalism) are mostly a set of ethics and an outlined lifestyle. Generally, these only divide people into groups that they would already be in based on their personalities. Well, the major religions, at least.   With that in mind, it is important to note that Milliel is very much influenced by Transitionalism and its elven population, to the point where people with dissenting opinions (which are usually fairly stupid and/or subjective) may feel they have no place and look elsewhere. Speculation has led many to believe this is partially why Orthin is so large.
