Destina's residents are primarily humans of Lurian descent.

History

In 5820, the Lurian Empire was in dire need of funds to continue the wars against the Marru Empire. The Emperor issued a proclamation to sell colonial charters in the lands around the Rio Meridi, which had remained uncolonized. Those who purchased a colonial charter would become Capitanos and would have legal authority like a noble in those lands. This allowed for the transfer of funds to the Crown in the short term, and in the long term would transfer the costs of establishing the colonies to the colonial Capitanos.
In 5821, the first settlement was established at what is now Destina. The area around Destina proved to be a valuable source of raw materials, including exotic lumber and sugar. Destina prospered and additional settlements were established, although their reach was limited due to resistance from the native Lizardfolk.
Following The War of the Eagles, Destina became independent only 122 years after founding. At the time, the city and broader region were valuable exporters of goods, but had limited resources and development. This meant that the region was a prime target for the international conflicts of other nations.
A Copper Dragon named Aryzontor built their lair in the jungles east of Destina. Aryzontor grew to be friendly with several Destinan explorers who discovered the dragon. Aryzontor would prove pivotal to the defense of Destina and the broader region when they fought a rogue dragon invading the territory.
Destina eventually became a protectorate of the Atathian Empire, and then a colony. The old system of the Capitanos was dissolved, replaced with an Atathian governor. The various small captaincies were reorganized into a single province. This period of relative peace allowed for the further development of the colony and establishment of key infrastructure. The city of Destina became the capitol of the new province.
Following the Demonic Invasion, Destina once again became independent. The city joined the Trading Coalition in 6346, which brought another period of prosperity and relative peace. Merchants from other Trading Coalition cities invested in Destinan mining and agriculture.

Geography

Thick and rugged jungles limit land connections to Acqua Draconis to the north or Fleurgurd to the south. As a result, most trade and travel in the region is waterborne.

Natural Resources

The lands around Destina are rich farmland for sugar and other tropical crops. Inland and farther up the river are significant gold mines.
