Dark Powers
The Dark Powers are a wide collection of minor deities, demigods, and archfiends. Most of these entities reside in the Abyss, although some are present in other places.
The Dark Powers are said to be created from the blood of Kirbarir, each of them a different sin within his soul. Mortal scholars often categorize attempt to categorize them as demons, devils, or other types of fiends depending on their behavior, but these labels and distinctions are ultimately meaningless to the fiends themselves.
Aezaya: Aezaya, She Who Whispers from the Shadows, is a demoness of forbidden knowledge. She offers power through knowledge, to corrupt those who wield it or in exchange for their soul. She is considered a patron of witches and the dark magic arts, including necromancy and demonology. She is the daughter of Igmakaran and the granddaughter of Kirbarir. She is a demon of shadow and she is said to have the ability to change her form. She is said to have had a troubled romance with the Witch Queen thousands of years ago. Surprisingly little information is known about her as a result of her influence. Her home realm is known as the Stygian Library, a vast library of secrets and forbidden knowledge. She is served by Arcanoloths, who act as librarians in the Stygian Library, as well as Shadow Demons. Many of her fiendish followers originated as mortal souls who sought forbidden magical power and knowledge, including dark sorcerers and witches. Her greatest plot - the corruption of the The Amber Order - ultimately led to the rise of Dendar in 6520. In a pitched battle on the Moon itself, Aezaya fought Kimula and a band of heroes, before being ultimately defeated. She will reform in the Abyss in time, but she is vanquished for the time being. Despite this, there are dark portents as her subordinates seek to rule the Stygian Library in her stead.
The Corpse Star: The Corpse Star is a demonic entity who causes the dead to rise. Magic radiates from the Star constantly, which appears as a sickly-green hue in the night sky. The Corpse Star is uncaring and rarely interacts with mortals, for good or bad. The Corpse Star was imprisoned in the Amber Temple until released by the elf Kasimir in 6506. In 6520, the Corpse Star was consumed entirely by Dendar.
Dendar: Dendar, known as the Night Serpent, is a creature of nightmares and apocalyptic destruction. Dendar's ultimate goal is to consume all creation. He grants power to those who help him achieve this end. Dendar was imprisoned in the Amber Temple for thousands of years, until released by the warlock Kyros in 6506. In the coming years, Dendar rose in power, and gained a mortal following through the Cult of Dendar. In 6520, he consumed the Corpse Star, gaining powers over the undead and causing a wave of newly-risen undead across Durin. He attempted to consume The Moon and Kimula, but he was ultimately sealed again in amber on the Moon.
Icthyagron: Ichthyagron is a Demon Lord who resides in the the Sunless Depths of the Abyss. Ichthyagron is a fiendish creature of the oceans, with the body of an eel, the tentacles of a squid, the arms of a crab, the face of a demon with a maw like a shark. Ichthyagron and his minions are said to travel to Durin through portals in the deepest reaches of the ocean, but they cannot ascend to the surface where the sunlight penetrates. Ichthyagron has a predatory sensibility and strikes quickly and mercilessly at the weak. He is bloodthirsty and always hungry, although prone to periods of long dormant slumber. His followers satiate his hunger, and in return, he grants them some of his power. He has no interest in conquering or building an empire, simply raiding. He is hyper intelligent, and capable of complicated ambushes and cunning.
Igmakaran: Igmakaran, the Granter of Wishes, is the king of shadow demons. He is known to grant wishes to mortals in order to further his own inscrutible wishes. It is believed that Igmakaran was involved in the Dragon Heists and resurrected Krusk Firemaw of the Throat Crushers. He is the father of Aezaya. He rules the Void from the Sanctum of Igmakaran.
Mammon: Mammon is the archdevil of greed. He appears before mortals who desire wealth and offers them riches beyond their imagination, often through the use of contracts. However, his gifts are always cursed in some way and his contracts written to favor him alone. He often leaves the recipient desiring ever more, eventually leading them to a path of corruption and damnation. Like his targets, Mammon always desires more, and he is usually depicted as a gaunt, starving man. Mammon was responsible for the corruption of the dwarves of Del Nulbek. It is known that Mammon considers Igmakaran an ancient rival, as his habit of granting wishes flies against Mammon's provision of contracts.
Nhimbaloth: Nhimbaloth is a shapeless entity known as the Empty Death. She preys on lost souls, devouring indiscriminately; those she consumes have no afterlife or potential for resurrection. They are forever gone, and forever nothing. She is served by will-o-wisps and worshiped by some cultists, but she is uncaring for their devotion. She is often depicted as a ghostly human woman with one eye and writhing tentacles in place of hair, but her true form is incorporeal and formless. Her realm is the Swamp of Souls, a murky and dark wasteland of decay.
Ochniyye Palochki: Ochniyye Palochki is the boogeyman of warnings told to children. Ochniyye Palochki appears to the lonely as a friend, building their trust before eventually encouraging (or tricking) them into bloody acts of violence. His form is usually depicted as a fiendish scarecrow made of sharpened sticks. Ochniyye Palochki was imprisoned within the Amber Temple until released by the barbarian Yannek in 6506.
Vampyr: Vampyr is the god of vampires. He gave the power of vampirism to Strahd von Zarovich centuries ago, while imprisoned within the Amber Temple. He was defeated by other Dark Powers in 6506.
