Scarlet Tunggite

The turbulent history of Scarlet Tunggite is one of being a savior to a killer to today's wary ally in the fight against darkness. At first, it was a tremendous boon for the Nightlanders the ability to keep oneself warm as well as not drawing undue attention to themselves. Everyone was rushing from vein to vein to collect and make a profit off the crystal. During this heyday, all the burning and mining accidents had created a massive build-up of Chaos Ash. Many Nightlanders became ill and succumbed to the Quaking Fever. In the year 9952 AC, it is estimated that 40 percent of the population of the Crimson Kingdom. The kingdom attempted to control the usage of the Scarlet Tunggite Special devices like Camp Stove can enhance the effectiveness of the crystals as well as containing the ash so that it may be disposed of properly. This helped immensely until the War Of Nightmares. During this time, Scarlet Tunggite was used in bombs and incendiary devices. Over the years since the war, the cleanup of contaminated areas continues.

Properties

Material Characteristics

With a cursory glance Scarlet Tunggite could easily be confused with a Very Dark Colored Ruby or garnet. However, when inspected closely you can see black veins running through the crystalline structure. It also gives off a very low inferred radiation making it warm to the touch.

Physical & Chemical Properties

This is a highly combustible mineral. Even a spark will ignite the material. Once ignited the gem will burn until it is all consumed. The flame given off by the burning is in the inferred range and only has a dim ghostly reddish black color is visible with normal vision.

Compounds

Crushed Scarlet Tunggite is one of the components to make Dust.

Geology & Geography

It is found in Nightmare Marble deposits in the Dark Lands.

Life & Expiration

Though it burns it does so at a very slow rate compared to wood. A one-inch cube will burn for 8 hours with the intensity of a small campfire.

History & Usage

History

Since it's discovery, it was determined that the Chaos Ash that had been found when mining Nightmare Marble was the remains of the Scarlet Tunggite they needed to be careful with the hazards remains.

Discovery

Black Mountain Mining was the first to encounter this gem in 5056 AC. When mining for Nightmare Marble, a miner caused a spark that ignited a vein of this. Luckily, it was only a small vein running through the Marble.

Everyday use

The two most common uses of Scarlet Tunggiteis are the creation of Dust and wood-alternative for heating.

Refinement

The raw crystal is cut to different sizes to be used as fuel for different devices like the Darkland Camp Stoves and in gnomish furnaces as a fuel source.

Hazards

Due to its high combustibility and the fact that nothing can dowse the flame once ignited. The only way the fire will go out is when it burns out all the crystals available to combust. Great care is taken in the mining and transportation of crystals.
The ash that remains after burning is a fine dust toxic to most creatures known as Chaos Ash. Quaking Fever is caused by this ash.

Distribution

Trade & Market

Unlike in the original days, the trade and sale of this crystal are one of the highest controlled substances in the Bregritopia Empire now.

Storage

Due to its volatile nature, it must be stored in something to keep any spark away from the crystal. Layron and Pyroknit bags and pouches are commonly used by the average person, for large transports Stasis Crates are often used.

Law & Regulation

Due to its volatile nature and the toxicity of the ash created when burned. The QFA Doctrine was drafted and implemented by the Bregritopia Empire.
