Marstoli Commonwealth

The second of three major political powers in Duneterra, located on the southern half of Obeavos. Primary city is Fort Marstol.
The Marstoli Commonwealth came into existence as a treaty made between the cities of Maran, Yadir, Hedaran, and Watershield to pool their respective powers in an attempt to challenge Selenia over its iron-clad control of the Bolan Strait. Named for the enigmatic and passionate Speaker for the group, Antonio Marstoli, the Commonwealth immediately set to building a military foothold on the banks of the Bolan, naming the outpost Fort Marstol. Antonio was unanimously elected as the leader, and when pressed for a title, he settled on Governor, stating that he merely helped to govern the cities within the commonwealth, and should not be addressed as royalty. Decisions were made by Antonio and the governors of the included cities.
Leadership for the Commonwealth was a point of contention as Antonio grew older. To avoid infighting, as well as to maintain a level of normalcy, it was decided that leadership would pass to the eldest child of legal age of the current governor. If no child were present, immediate or close family could make a bid for rulership, pending the judgement of the various city governors. Additionally, if they had no heirs or felt that none would be beneficial to the good of the country, a governor could also appoint an appropriate successor, officially moving the burden of leadership to a new familial line.
With the addition of Folran, the Marstoli Commonwealth boasts a population almost twice that of the Selenavi Republic, though the city of Selenia alone dwarfs any individual city of the Commonwealth. Major exports include salt, fish, wood, and gems and precious metals mined from caverns found under the Aarasyl Desert.
