Machanon

Home to study and worship of the Twelve, Machanon makes a point of never closing its borders, even during times of crisis and of disease. The eleven cities within its vague borders, each named for one of the gods, welcome all travelers, and serve as the new gateway between the two continents. With the most eastern-facing ports, Machanon also looks to the horizon to find new lands to the east, though no voyages have found anything yet.

Government

Machanon is led by the Arithmagician. Each Arithmagician rules for twelve years. The thirteenth year sees multiple would-be Arithmagicians undergo rituals, pilgrimages, holy quests, and any number of trials to become the next ruler of Machanon. These journeys, successful or not, have come to be known as the Year Walk.   The current Arithmagician is a tonberry named Samaje Batson. The next Year Walk is set for 1255.

History

While the cities within Machanon’s borders have existed for hundreds of years (the oldest confirmed is Koehnta in 333 AY, though unverified documents put Mechon as early as 55 AY), the country of Machanon did not officially exist until 644 AY. Discovery of a passage to the eastern ocean revitalized a explorer’s community disillusioned after the lack of progress defeating the Rinkan Mountains and the Burn, and religious community leaders saw a spiritual need and filled it.
