General Summary

A Stunning Performance in Eredet

In the morning, the Deep End laid out there plans. Rani and Declan explained to Moira that they most certainly do care about seeing The Doctor defeated, but rushing in right this moment seems incredibly rash and foolish. We are coming back though? When? We always get pulled away to something else it seems, but that's not the case for this, right? The parents assured her that yes, they're going to come back by the end of the week at the absolute latest.
Moira emphasized that if they wait for a magic feeling of "readiness" they will NEVER be able to go after The Doctor. The parents agree. Declan explained that there is a reason for his caution. If he could show her what happened on his wedding day... well, he doesn't WANT anyone to have to see that, but you can understand my apprehension. The creature the Doctor has... it can rip heads from shoulders like its nothing. And we don't even know how many of those things he has down there. We need support. They all can agree that support is wise (please note that they then FORGOT to ASK for such support). Ghilani mentioned concern about talking to Serene. I don't want to get FIRED.
The group then discussed the immediate sewer plan. Rani suggested that they should go back into the sewers, someone can pretend to get a sending, and then obviously, it would be VERY in character to rush to that person's aid! And then we actually go to Carmenthia and see Serene. As they discussed, Moira glanced around and didn't see anything invisible hanging about. And then, of course, we go to Nacheevi. In a stunningly prepared move, the Deep End provided 24 hour notice... to Ironborn. Can you schedule a meeting with the High Judge tomorrow morning? After a few hours, Ironborn confirmed an afternoon meeting. DO NOT BE LATE. Thank you, Ironborn, sir.
The Deep End quickly checked in with Lux and Leon – the two people most likely to have extensive spy networks. Lux seemed less able and willing to help. They have other affairs to manage, it seems. Leon, however, immediately adopts the look of "I'm not angry, just disappointed" as the group explains what happened the previous day. You entered a magic hub? Now, who KNOWS what other alarms may have been set off. If I was this Doctor, I'd seal up for a bit. Play it conservative and safe. But, with a sigh, Leon explained that Noel botched things up plenty of times in Ragna... and he fixed them. Certainly, he can at least try to do the same here. Rani asked if a performance would help? It certainly couldn't hurt worse, he supposed. Regardless, Leon will do what he can to pry further information from the depths of the city.
With conservations done, the Deep End – in disguise and enhanced – traveled back down into the sewers. As far as they could tell, there didn't appear to be any new footprints... at least where they travelled through. After maneuvering close to where they were, but not QUITE where they were, Rani paused. Oh no, guys! Serene needs our help with something in Carmenthia – we got to go now! Ghiani, kicking some rubble and poking rocks, has never given a better performance in his life. With that, Ghilani teleported the group to Carmenthia.

Olivantha, the One Who Survived

Arriving in Carmenthia, the Deep End sought out Dr. Corvinus, who mentioned – after looking down the hallway – that Serene was at his "estate" in the city. He provided general directions. As everyone stepped out onto the quad of St. Carmen's, the Deep End noticed a familiar man setting up shop near his donkey. Killian, one of Kalé's brothers, mentioned that things are slowly picking up now that things are cleared up in Oshiv'Ran. Azrail is very happy about the influx of mushrooms. Also, Kalé mentioned wanting to perhaps speak with you Ghilani... if you have a moment to spare.
Approaching the relatively quaint, pastel painted home, the door flew open the moment the threshold into the courtyard was crossed. Serene stood, in the process of casting... and then stopped. Per usual, she looks even more tired (if that's even possible at this point) than the last time. She welcomed them in. The home seems like a memory frozen in time with portraits of a happy family on the walls... though clearly from years ago. Corvinus and Denarya both look younger in the pictures. There is one of a young girl – perhaps 12 – who looks like Olivantha. She stands with an older sister and an older brother.
Serene brought them to a room on the second floor where Olivantha laid resting. A large black dog bounded over to meet them (the name tag reading "Sarge"). After receiving scratches, he returned to lay near Olivantha. Serene mentioned that her healing – the regeneration of her torso specifically – has held, but she remains mostly comatose. As Serene prepared to rouse her, she mentioned that the group should select their questions carefully. She has noted that distress may force her back under. Moira still has no idea who this person is. Rani made tea.
Olivantha, upon waking, seemed to recognize their faces, but didn't seem to remember anything more beyond that. Rani and Declan began the gentle questioning. What is the last thing you remember? I was attending the University. It was nice to be away from home, but also difficult. I was... I was seeing someone. Mario? Yes, Mario. We would take walks through the Square... the Square? Olivantha seemed to tense up. In response, Declan immediately reached out to give her something to grab onto and brace herself, if needed. Rani, backpedaled. We don't have to think about the Square! I can feel its claws... inside me... ripping, tearing, I– Moira gently bopped her on the head, casting Greater Restoration... and she seemed to settle back, blinking.
Do you ever remember being underground? Olivantha thought for a moment as Ghilani moved to help Serene, very quickly picking up on what she was doing (though not necessarily a clearly defined or written spell). Olivantha remembered the sound of waves... there was someone with her? He had a very large mustache? He kept talking about the good old days? I just wanted him... to shut up. I ignored most of what he said. Rani really wished they had taken Francis' head. Moira sheds a single tear. What about the Pirate Lord? Anything about a tiefling man? Also with a mustache? No... I remember sailing though? But I don't remember a Lord.
Taking a breath, Rani broached another topic: Have you ever seen a man with a plague doctor's mask? Olivantha froze. He restrained me down... he watched... and did nothing as I writhed in pain. There was a voice in my head. The masked man would bring IT into the room to terrify me. It was so... so... so very cold. I could hear screams. They echoed all around, down the halls, everywhere. The walls... the walls, they moved. It smelled so steril, but you could still smell the singed flesh underneath. There were people in masks – decorated with a black, warped star – they would watch. Only one ever approached. I could hear clocks. They had dragged me through the streets... Mario, where is he? Is he okay? They had dragged him off too. The group assured her that Mario is fine. Don't worry.
Olivantha continued. She had been so weak. Her only comfort was the voice in her head. Oh, what did she do? What had she done? Rani and Declan immediately stop her. Olivantha, you didn't DO anything. All you did was survive. You are here. You survived. Tentatively, they asked Olivantha about her brother. When was the last time you saw him? It's been two years... no, a year? I think? My brother... I haven't... and Olivantha faded out, eyes closing.
Leaving the room, Serene mentioned that, given what happen (looking at Moira), she was concerned that someone might have an interest in Olivantha again. Moving her to a secure location may be for the best. Serene can remain and ensure her safety for a time, but not forever. Dr. Valdove suggested taking Olivantha to her sister: Circe (No, not Cali's destroyed cabana). Serene also seemed perplexed that Olivantha had been attacked in the Main Square... Why hadn't she heard of something so gruesome happening so publicly?
Serene then led Ghilani off to what appeared to be a commandeered office. So you want to learn how to make your own spells? From which source do you wish to draw your power? Ghilani immediately responded divination. Dr. Valdove clarified: from your soul or from your blood? She can assist him more with magic of the soul than magic of blood. Ghilani said that might be the best place to start then. Serene continued, mentioning that it is perhaps better to start from something that already exists. It takes time to get the spell devised, the motions and runes sorted... and even more time to remove any side effects and achieve perfection. However, you may be able to do things that even I would never be capable of, Ghilani.
Now, when do you plan on going to Elios and resolving affairs there? Ghilani says soon, eyes narrowing. Why? When you have done the task there, you return to me, do you understand? Not generally to Eredet, not to my father... directly to me. Okay? Ghilani notes that – coupled with exhaustion – her eyes are filled with an almost desperate, unhinged determination. I am pleased my father has faith in you all, but you must understand, this is something I must do. Ghilani asked about a timeline... does this have to be done immediately? Serene sighed. If I succeed, is it not better to have the pantheon balanced sooner rather than later?
Ghilani mentioned that Serene should rest. By the way, I've been trancing longer now. Are you... sure you're a full elf? OBVIOUSLY. Serene definitely didn't believe that. To the outside world, they are both full elves.
Meanwhile, Declan talked to Six. How's Mario? Did you check him over when he arrived? Yes, I am not a dumb, stupid, idiot Six. No, you're Spectacular Six. She did note residual traces of what currently occupies Moira. Otherwise, the boy is fine. Declan is relieved. Also, could you potentially house someone who needs protection? Six would be willing, but can't really provide medical care. She mentioned someone in Oshiv'Ran (who she has sent people to before), perhaps Four, and maybe even Eight, if you can convince her.
Moira and Rani scoured the city for diamond dust and other spellcasting materials. Newt asked good ol' dad about the army thing. When does that happen? Hm, well first I bring the whole army through, we close the door – don't want any other warlords following now do we – and then we shall see. Moira sent to Yue. Do you have any information on Dysis Caliban? Eternal Oracle? Or prophecies? Yue responded that there are prophecies preserved within the Temple, though she is unfamiliar with an eternal Oracle. As far as she is aware, no Oracle has lived eternally.
Ghilani brought the fellow boys along with him to the Kartus Brothers' shop. Kaleb was as grouchy as ever, but did perk up just a tiny bit when Mary was mentioned. Going to the back, Kalé was in the midst of preparing some sort of potion. I spent a lot of time thinking whether or not it was worth telling you what I suspect, in any capacity. How much do you know of the blood witches and how they operate? They each have specialties, do they not? The head of my friend you so... crudely swung in my face, did you know that she was the first? Ghilani asked if Kalé was then Blood Sworn. You served her, right? No and Yes. I didn't die, now did I, yet she is not here. Kalé has been alive for millenia... but this is not the first body he's occupied. He pulled down his mask to revel the beginnings of rot and decay on his face. Soon, it will be time again. Holoki's specialty... was blood duplication, you could say. Ghilani piped up: like a Simulacrum? Somewhat. He has suspicions about Primus. Be cautious. Ghilani was confused... what do you mean? Kalé sighs. You are intelligent; put the pieces together. I will not risk saying it so explicitly while all three of you are imbued with traces of Primus.
Ghilani – really frustrated and annoyed that everyone after Varoona has either been cryptic, an asshole, or both – is happy to leave... but Declan stayed back. Tell me. Kalé only chuckles. Declan presses again, what is Primus planning? As I said, I won't risk it. Know you will have to make choices in the future. Be cautious. After acquiring some cookies, the party prepared to rest. Rani told Moira all she knew and remembered about Olivantha and then Moira stepped out to pray. She could really use his guidance right now. Take hold of the red thread and weave your fate, Moira.
In the morning, Rani got in touch with the teleportation techs (TT) and secured access to NTI. She then spoke with Dr. Corvinus. Hey, we travel a lot, perhaps we can help you with your son? Can you tell me anything about him? Corvinus explained that he didn't feel the medical calling and felt out of place here in Carmen'Két. He and Denarya had thought University elsewhere would fit more, but he ran from that. He's got a sense of humor on him and can be incredibly convincing in discussions if invested enough. He always had an interest in history and sports. Always had that beanie on his head. Rani paused. Huh. Sports, you say?

Let's NOT Collect Jail Time

The Deep End arrived at the Nacheevi Technical Institute and were provided a set of laws, a map, and brief disdainful looks primarily directed at Declan's belt and more generally at Rani. The teleportation tech informed them that, if you feel like wandering through the city, take advantage of the Arcane Skiff System (A.S.S), you can see the in progress Navy in the Port, or perhaps get some drinks at The Keg or see the Metal Octopus in the Forge Ward. The Deep End thanks the tech for the map and directions before walking through the halls of the NTI... and it quickly became painfully obvious that there is some underlying tension amidst the ranks here. Perhaps some elitism. Students whispered disdainfully about other departments and even about others within their departments. Until all fell silent when a warforged in brilliant purple garments entered, trailed by two frantic-looking individuals. No, you did it wrong. You are building a heart, you can't just switch the valves. The warforged professor moved past, undeterred by the protests that followed.
Dipping into the library, both Ghilani and Rani gained entrance as associates of academic "elite". Rani and Ghilani looked around regarding gates and doors and how to close them. They got the sense that planar travel is in play with Atu's door... but besides vague theoretical concepts, it hasn't fully been explored. A technological solution may not be feasible. Ghilani then took a moment to look through the sources of magical power. There is ample material on the theory of magic, including the historical shift from the belief that magic pervades the world and is drawn from all around to... magic drawn from within, from the soul: the greatest gift from The One. There was some work on comparing how the traditional magic differs from that practiced by the blood witches. There doesn't seem to be much related to Moira's buddy and pal.
As they prepared to leave, Rani checked in with Ghilani. Are you doing okay? Are you sensing... simmering rage from your blood hunter over there? Ghilani sighed, yeah... picking up on some annoyance over there. But I was a bit scared to go in. Rani reassured Ghilani as they rejoined the other three, snapping Declan fully awake and breaking Moira from her intent focus on the clock.
Arriving at the Temple early, the Deep End was escorted down to a massive courtroom with a statue of a blind god holding a scale ominously over them. High Priest Isocrates invited them to speak. Rani stepped forward and explained that they were here on behalf of the Council and sought entrance to the old temple. The High Judge explained they would need to complete 9 tasks to prove their devotion to Nacheevi's tenets... unless they felt they had already done so.
After some discussion, Ghilani presented some proof of completion. We assisted Matron 7 by disposing of Romello (and are also excellent patrons of Vith), Declan had contributed to the development of ales and is an excellent patron of such establishments, we saved the fish of Carmenthia and the Forests of Oshiv'Ran, Rani and I are sponsored by Marcella Dunebrook and Serene Valdove and... Well, are tale is surely being documented in Carmenthia's library. Isocrates paused. That is not a contribution to the Archives here. Rani stepped forward and presented an alternative offering: the journal. Isocrates waved a hand over it and nodded. Very well then.
We are currently testing Ironborn's newest technology, we apprehended pirates in Varoona, we oversaw the execution of Mencius for his crimes, and we are actively hunting the perpetrators of strife across the continent... namely the White Masks. Now, should we go get our boat? Isocrates thought for a moment before he waved for them to follow. Are you all resolute of will? Everyone but Ghilani and Newt felt their health suddenly drained away. Deciding it was best not to heal... they followed in Isocrates example, tapping three specific places on the door behind the Courtroom. Beyond, they entered not a hallway, but a pristine, ordered place of marble – so polished it was practically reflective. And a deep voice echoed out.
Now, you will speak truth. And I shall be your Judge, Jury and if need be... Executioner.   The wheel must turn and knowledge paramount. Speak plainly and offer forth knowledge once hidden, now exposed.

Rani stated that Dysis had Matron 7 make these two blades explicitly for her, despite being a millenium between her and their commission. Moira said that those who died in Judas did not make it to the gates of Ah'Shal. Declan said that Therarask had recalled its devotion. Ghilani said that he's made out of a bunch of other people! How quaint! Newt stated that he's having a weapon made to kill both fiends and divines. Newt promptly vanished.
Imperfection is the nature of those of mortal make. Speak plainly and put to light your greatest sin or crime.
Rani chose to sacrifice her family for the greater good; she chose possessions, items over people. Declan said he gave up on his mother when she was sick, hurting, and perhaps needed him most. Instead, he left her. Moira responded that, well, it might sound bad, but she's flung some heads around pretty callously. Ghilani responded very succinctly: "my existence."
Meanwhile, Newt had the pleasure of speaking with Nacheevi – alone. I cannot permit you to follow through with such an act, to endanger the pantheon that upholds and secures this world. Newt explained that he needs it to hold his dad accountable. Then what purpose do you have for including "divines" in that? Newt needs to cover all his bases, first and foremost... and perhaps he needs it to kill Primus. Oh? You are lucky you said that in my domain.
Law, Knowledge, Advancement, Justice... these are the pillars upon which the Ordained Order stands. Yet they require those of mortal make to uphold them. Speak plainly and bare forth your inner truth. Where do you fall in the Ordained Order? What is your higher purpose?
Rani believes that she will make it to the end – to the final battle, whatever that may be. That she will see this journey through. Moira promised to avenge those that were lost in the war so long ago. Ghilani only wants to protect his kin and friends, to give them the justice they deserve. Declan wants to bring understanding to the rules on the continent. Newt plans to restore Ah'Shal to what it once was. Very well then.
The Deep End then appeared in an open amphitheater with various figures lounging about, seemingly lost in thought or engaging in conversation. Now more relaxed, Nacheevi sits in the amphitheater, a hand gliding over a book. The Deep End approached. Rani almost immediately pulled out the map. Nacheevi grinned. You will need this and handed her a stone. Your honesty and commitment to your honesty is refreshing. Though be advised, there are those in your group who do not feel that way. Nacheevi then offered boons, though withheld Newts for now.
Rani took a moment as she was incredibly surprised that she didn't quite feel the need to lecture Nacheevi. The God of Order smirked; I've heard of your tendencies. No, I recognize that I have the "dull" job, but an imperative one. Lark requires the boundaries of a canvas to paint freely within and consent is needed on Pleasure Row... though you could have done without Ragna's belt here. Look, I covered it with a sash, dammit!
Rani then asked about Ironborn. Hm. His arcane engine is certainly promising and a spectacular advancement. A Navy could be needed given the stagnation of the Moon Guard as of late. But the rush? That seems unnecessary. Perhaps it is a product of his family history and a need to be seen for what he is. To be acknowledged for his skills and intellect and drive. Declan then asked about memories.
My forges were alight day and night to feed the war effort. My skies filled with smog, resources drained, destroyed, and lost... and how many of my greatest minds did not make it back. However, what struck me the most amidst my memories pertains not to those who did not return... but to those who did. Brilliant mathematicians no longer understood basic concepts. Great weapon's smiths found they no longer could produce even the most simple of blades. It was as if they had simply been stripped of what they knew. Drained of their talents.
Didn't something like that happen in Ragna? Declan posed a question about the gods' missing memories and supposed blindness to certain things. Why do you think that is? Is there not one underlying common factor? Nacheevi is confident that it has to do with the thing latched to Moira's soul. How IS she doing, by the way? Surprisingly better than expected. The Deep End, however, isn's surprised. Moira is resilient.
How do you feel about Tel'Rhea? You can't honestly believe that she's as great as she believes she is. The Mother Goddess isn't perfect, but she is necessary. You wish to bring her antagonist? Ah, I see she couldn't wipe it away entirely. Declan revealed that her own High Priestess is unable to have children. Nacheevi frowned. You should have not told me that. Now I will be compelled to share if the Mother wishes to speak with me. Regarding Ghilani, Tolvaj may be the least of your concerns. Why do you believe she despises you so? Ghilani angrily responds that it's because he doesn't fit into her perfect, neat little box of control. Nacheevi sighed. Perhaps that is it... or perhaps there is more to it.
if you need me for anything, merely speak to my High Priest. I will know. Moira's eye twitches... and the group appeared outside of the Temple.

Rumors & Gossip in Nacheevi

One of the youngest graduates, but the slowest to make anything of his ideas. Still, even if the wheel's barely turning, it's still turning. And now it's barreling forward. I wonder if his genius is wasted stuck in a room with politicians.

Do you think there's flesh underneath that mask? No, they must be warforged. There's no way they could move the way they do otherwise. Justice may be blind... but Query sees all.

The last board meeting was abysmal. Dr. Elderfound seems to still be stuck on the larger grant allocations. She's frustrated that funding went to a historical research project rather than looking to the future, but here she is stuck in the recent past instead of forging a path forward. Now a good look for her.

The vessels that IronForge Industries is building down at the Port are quite something. Wheel's rapidly turning with how they never seem to stop working. What's the rush, though? It's not like there's an impending war or anything. Just a Pirate "Lord", last I heard...

The Words of Nacheevi

Born of a Goddess' mistake. A bloodline only half of this plane... and now sword and bound by blood rather than soul. Does a divided pledge truly hold any weight? A loyalty to your kin and friends, yet that has flickered. Your past mocks the blind nature of Justice – hunting for heads with a disgrace of an Executioner. I had hoped you had begun to atone for your desire to kill the Lady of Death and yet...

Your family is your foundation, both a strength... and a weakness. Often taking action without thorough thought, you have still pursued balance. Yet your impulsivity paves the way for regret. Should tragedy befall those you hold dear, would you abandon your greater purpose to crumble and fall... or would you remain resolute?

I can see it writhing within you, intertwined with your soul and eating away at the greatest gift bestowed upon you. But its actions I cannot judge... only yours. Do you fear the power of Fate? Can anyone who shies away from the red threads at the fringes ever be trusted and relied upon to weave the patterns that define the Ordained Order? The continent? When time is no longer on your side, it is unclear if you will prevail.

Justice failed you as a child. Did you find what you sought in the months of inebriation, well beyond the tastes of moderation? A disgrace. yet you have clawed yourself from the depths of depravity... to embrace two forms of chaos. To what higher oaths do you appeal? When you lost one you loved, you broke. If you lose another, do you have the willpower and the resilience to weather the storm?

An abomination of the Blessed Soul and of Blood. Your existence is in violation of the Ordained Order. It should have been expected, when you paraded a vile mockery of life through the streets of both the Great Mother and the Lady of Death before fleeing from your crime. And since, you have proven yourself gullible, naive... a fool. Intellect you may possess, but wisdom you lack. Perhaps a flicker, but what a repulsive desire to replace the Great Mother. If you cannot have your mother, do you wish to deny the continent theirs?
