Session 16

General Summary

While traveling, Newt spoke to Rani - and Oksha, who was on the same horse as him - about his dream. The tiefling seemed to refer to himself as "Atu Szeme". The two of them discussed the possible implications and meanings... Despite working closely with a professor, the name is unfamiliar to Rani.   Callon seemed somewhat distant upon the Deep End's return to the city of Varoona. Before departing, he asked that he be allowed to take his family's signet ring so that he could return it to his mother. He seemed to be dreading having a conversation with his mother after what happened at the estate.   Oksha asked for an escort back to the Temple as she's already late to depart the city. Once at the Temple, she gave Newt a sending stone in case he learns something new. She promised to try and contact the High Priest to inquire about the situation. She mentioned the Old Texts kept in the Temple of Ah'Shal. She returned Newt's awkward side hug, plucked one of the spirits off of him one last time, and wished the party well before returning to her escort. It seems she neglected to tell him where she'd gone...

Rani and The Widow obtained a pearl so that the functioning alcoholic could identify their magic items.   Newt went and picked up Zephus. While waiting for the air genasi to get ready, Newt called Thanatos who appeared on his shoulder almost instantly, the same curious look in his beady, glowing red eyes. He requested Volo keep his ears open for any information regarding "Atu Szeme". Thanatos vanished after eating the offered treat.   After picking up a even more defeated looking Callon, the Deep End made it to the theater, where it seems Rani's friend Ezra managed to acquire them a box for the performance. Shortly after settling in, the lights dimmed and the production of "On Tides of Dread" began.
On Tides of Dread   This popular, fictional tragedy, written by an unknown playwright, explores the events of the rise and subsequent fall of the Dread King. The exciting two-act performance addresses themes of romance and seduction, betrayal and subterfuge, honor, and the inevitability of the Dread King's rise to power... and the ultimate fate of Judas...   Main Cast   Judas   The High Priestess of Judas   The Oracle in the East   The Dread King   Varoona   Therarask   Lark   Soyolmaa
When the curtains had closed and the audience quieted, Rani found her way backstage. Marigold was ecstatic that the newly painted backdrop - courtesy of the swarms - didn't accidentally go up in flame again. Ezra, still covered in fake blood, invited Rani out for the evening. Rani informed the party that they shouldn't expect her back until morning.   Ezra, now dressed quite dashingly in a golden jacket, took Rani to the Bard's College where they performed an impromptu routine that captivated the entire crowd of students, locals, and tourists alike. After some good quality Varoonan street food, Ezra led Rani to a nice, secluded spot with a great view of the stars and the bay... which neither of them paid much attention to. Cue fade to black.

Newt motivated everyone to get wasted and after picking up Cali, they headed to the hottest spot in town: the Blue End Galleon. Callon appears to be a sad drunk, and spent much of the evening either crying on Newt or crying on Moira. In complete contrast, Moira was a bundle of intoxicated joy as she attempted to lift the spirits of the very downtrodden Callon. The Widow surpassed hammered and went to the realm of the drunken beyond. Zephus seemed to be an angry drunk, immediately berating Portia for her fashion choices. When his clothes started to smell, he changed... and spent the rest of the night as a tablecloth burrito. Cali, Portia, and Newt were able to somehow get everyone home.   Waking up around dawn, Rani settled on the concept of a tango for her performance with Ezra for San Futas. He escorted her back and helped her yeet The Widow inside. The party was then abruptly awoken by a very happy Rani as she danced and clapped through Cali's cabana.   At Chaos Reigns, the portal appeared to be open to Carmenthia. The Deep End acquired some much needed potions. They ended up hanging around to chat with Vith after asking Auntie Four for a paternity test. Vith seemed to have spent his time at the forge making +1 weaponry for the sales floor... said he was feeling "basic". When he mentioned taking a couple years to develop a design for Newt's "cool" crossbow, Vith backtracked. Sometimes he forgets that two years for him... well, he's lived thousands of lifetimes. He enters the forge young, lives til he's old, comes back out, and ages in reverse. How else would he be able to make the magic items that he does?   Portia pulled Moira aside. Portia admitted to feeling the most connected to Moira and gifted her a Pearl of Power. She wished her luck on the Trial, and offered her some advice. Portia cast aid and Moira's response:
"For now, french toast stick?
The party rocketed to the edge of the Bay where they moved straight to the temple, located in a very large open clam shell. After speaking with the old priest there and getting fitted with bubble helms, the priest escorted them to the Drop-Off and the entrance to the Old Temple of Varoona...   Suddenly aboard a ship, the Deep End got to put their new sailing skills to the test. They navigated a ship through a tidal wave nd a torrential downpour. They embraced the chaos - some more than others - amidst the Court of Varoona. After arriving on an island with silver shores and finding their own reflection, each member was asked "Who are you?". Three members gave... satisfactory answers and two failed. Moira rounded on her reflection, directing its question back into the pool of water.   Rani, Newt, and The Widow collected the boon and a pearl necklace.   Moira awoke back on the ship where Portia appeared to her, revealing herself to be the Goddess of the Sea, Varoona. Should Moira wish, Varoona would take Moira on as her own cleric... perhaps they can embark on a journey of growth and self-discovery together...
