Session 12

General Summary

Amidst the tense atmosphere of Carmine's, the Deep End found themselves in the middle of a spat between two powerful bounty hunters: Diavolo the Executioner and Denarya. After relocating to a secret room upstairs, Rani's ballsy comments to Diavolo convinced him to begrudgingly work "together" with Denarya to catch this important bounty: Mario De'Salvadora, wanted for arson and the attempted assassination of High Council members. Both revealed some helpful information from their underground contacts.   At Chaos Reigns, Auntie Four appeared to have a vial of Mario's blood, revealed that he came by to purchase "Chaos stones", and that there were traces of flour on his clothes. When Moira inquired about spell scrolls, Four was excited to try an experiment: can Bella's tattoos be inscribed on scrolls and function similar to regular spell scrolls? Four looks forward to finding out.   On the open seas, the Deep End attempted to learn how to sail their ship from Sidon's friends and their temporary crew.    Port Oceana is similar to Varoona in that he bears the same white walls and the same blue-green-teal color scheme. However, the Port has a much larger shantytown with a large fort positioned in the central ring of the city, safety behind two sturdy walls. The Port itself is nestled behind a wall of rock that protects the city and its floating docks from most of the wrath of the Goddess of the Sea. Recently, rumors have started floating around that a horrible creature has destroyed some of the floating docks, targeting naval vessels and, occasionally, the warehouses near the docks as well.   Eventually, the party found an old abandoned flour mill. Newt - in the guise of a goat - expertly detected and disarmed many of the traps set up to harm whoever entered. Rani stumbled across a fancy mirror and had her swarms investigate. They seemed a bit distracted after that with the bees drifting back to Rani even when given a task and the locusts seemingly poking around everywhere for something. The Widow took a peak in the mirror only to see the creature he's been hunting staring back at him. Moira also glanced in the mirror and a familiar looking group of kalashtar stared back at her... and then seemed to follow her wherever she went.   After triggering these rusty metal skeletons protected by old flour sacks, the party was subjected to multiple wild magic surges (aka. Newt and the very bad 30 seconds). Something appeared to happen to Newt's tattoo, he shrunk an inch, his toenails grew to such lengths that it was difficult for him to move, he lost a candle, gained 30 pounds, AND saw his own death. On the other end, Moira avoided every single surge. Rani lost her sense of smell, gained intelligence, and then developed an odor (but hey, she couldn't smell herself!). The Widow ended up gaining a second skipping stone.   Upon finding a scared human boy, Newt immediately tried to stab him, but failed (twice). Having experience with bounty hunting, Newt avoided hearing Mario's "pity story". Rani almost followed, but stopped at the mention of a familiar name... Olivantha. It seems that Mario knew Olivantha and was in disbelief when the party informed him that Olivantha had tried to kill them. He agreed to go with them when they mentioned Denarya.   Upon arriving back at Carmine's, Mario immediately panicked at the sight of Diavolo. Deal completed, Diavolo seemed pleased and offered to be of assistance in the future. Rani immediately requested Volo to keep eyes and ears out for any information on Olivantha. He agreed. Before Newt left, Volo issued a warning: Best be aware that powerful forces have their eye on you, Newt. Moira departed as well, leaving The Widow to enter the side room with Denarya and Mario. Feeling guilty about turning over Mario, the Widow attempted to convince Denarya to help him escape. Denarya insisted that she couldn't afford having Volo in her way. She would do anything to get her daughter back, but if The Widow was adamant, he was more than welcome to challenge Diavolo.    Rani found her way to the rafters of the theater... hoping to feel a bit more at home. The swarms did their best to comfort her.   Newt traveled to the temple to inform Erwin that Diavolo will be leaving the city shortly. He prayed at the statue of Ah'Shal for some time.   Moira returned to Cali's cabana, just sitting quietly until Newt returned. They spoke about Newt's relationship with Diavolo and the morality of their choices. Moira realized that maybe she isn't cut out to be a bounty hunter.   The Widow bar hopped and got trashed, waking up in "therapy", but not wanting to talk. He listened to a familiar song and was assured that she had gone to Therarask's Court.   What is the weight of one life versus another? It seems that Erwin's life outweighed Mario's. One must die for the other to live.

Missions/Quests Completed

Congratulations, you've successfully kept your (Newt's) deal with Diavolo and it seems he'll be leaving the city in the near future. Erwin is safe! Although you've not collected on a gold reward, you've successfully brought a horrible criminal - arsonist and assassin - to justice at the axe of Diavolo the Executioner...   It seems you aren't the only one looking for Olivantha... Denarya has promised her aid in the future should you continue to search for her daughter.
