Player Primer

Welcome to the World of Taume

This is a world of wonder, danger, and oddities. As a player you will take on the role of a Dreamer , an individual given the gift (or curse) of dreams. You represent a hero in this story, and your actions literally can shape the world around you.

Dreams, Magic, and Madness

Dreams have a very strong impact on the world. The Wyrd is a mysterious and shifting force, changing the world in chaotic and unpredictable ways. Dreams directly affect the Wyrd and its influence on reality. This is also what gives the dreamers their power by slowly learning to master the magical energies of the Wyrd itself. Be warned, as the Wyrd is just as dangerous as it is wonderous, corrupting the mind of creatures attuned to it. As your power grows, you risk losing your mind and slipping into madness.

Clockwork, Firearms, and Gems

Aided by Gemtech, the civilizations of Taume incorporate clockwork technology in their daily lives, propelling their industry. Flintlock firearms are relatively common. This brings a sense of security to some and warmongering greed to others.

The Continent of Aislion

In the vast world of Taume, the continent of Aislion has been mapped for your exploration. It is home to five city-states that currently exist in a peace brought about by the Free Cities Coalition . Separated by the vast Wilds , travel between these cities is dangerous and must be taken seriously.
Tidefront
To the West, Tidefront is a battered, half-ruined coastal city and the main port where imported goods are brought to the continent. While the main port for maritime trade, it is also home to hostile thugs, thieves and pirates, all of whom pale in comparison to the noble families that rule as kingpins. Anything that happens in Tidefront, legal or otherwise, is usually under the control of one of those four families.
Sanctuary
The nearby sister city to Tidefront, Sanctuary, has become a safe haven for many wishing to be rid of dreams including their own. Within the vast grey stone walls all dreams fall silent. This also has made it the prime place to host the Inquisition's most fervent, religious fanatics who persecute dreamers as abominations. While many find respite and perceived protection from dreams and their consequences, no one truly understand the political nature of the city. The dangers presented by the ruling guilds are concealed behind its political puppet of a mayor.
Valoryant
To the far north is Valoryant , a city secluded in the icy tundra of the north. Proud, resilient, and passionate, the people are the most exquisite craftsmen of the lands. Under the rule of Nicholai, the Ageless , the Valoryans have prospered despite their geographical challenges. They have learned to tame many of the great beasts that call the snowbound valley their home. The inquisition also has a strong foothold here, but they stand in stark contrast to the traditionalists that call the region home. A constant political tension exists between the Inquisition’s forces and those traditionalists following the Old Ways .
Glith-Dardin
To the east is the grand desert city of Glith-Dardin, the largest city on the continent. Forged by the Dwarves and Glithi as a combined effort, the city has flourished as the source of Gemtech stones. Founded on ancient Aeldrich ruins, the city is connected to gem mines. This has given them a reputation for artifice and invention but also for a greed and pride. The Glithi people stand in stark contrast, existing mostly as humble nomads in the desert.
Ashview
Ashview is a strange city in that it is fully self-sufficient but is in an almost inhospitable location. Located at the base of the mountains and acting as a gateway to the Sulphur Fields, a shifting and molten landscape littered with hidden ruins, Ashview functions as a hub for treasure seekers. Sulphur mining operations, a vital industry to the manufacturing of firearms, also provides a valuable trade resource.   Welcome, Dreamers, to these strange lands. May your adventures be full of wonder and your stories be the stuff of dreams!
