He is a middle son from the Robelard clan of textile merchants out of Baldur's Gate, in Waterdeep to make a name for himself out of his family's shadow.

After being lampooned in Waterdeep, Rainier used his knowledge of the merchants and met with Irdy knowing what type of person he was. Rainier told Irdy what I knew about the other competing merchants and in return Irdy helped me find employment.
