Robelard's Fine Silks

Shop (Fine Silk Textiles)

A three-story building with a basement, this smaller structure has a ground-floor shop, offices on the second floor, and apartments on the third. The building itself has seen quite a few years of regular and steady use, leaving it somewhat ramshackle and in need of repairs. It is owned by the silk merchant Irdinhalyr Robelard.

Services & Goods

Robelard's sells mostly swathes of silk, both in raw spindles by the yard and panels of embroidered work. Their silks are imported from two main sources: Shou Lung, in far-off Kara-Tur, and from the elves,   They also sell woven silk rope, string, and thread by the spindle. They do not sell finished outfits of clothing here, though they are happy to put customers in touch with any of their clothier contacts. The shop has begun carrying small finished pieces here and there, such as scarves and kerchiefs.   Silk, by the Yard: elven silk is generally 8gp to 12 gp per yard, Shoul silk is 10gp to 14gp per yard.   Silk Rope: 1 gold piece per five feet of braided length, in lengths up to three hundred feet (60 gp).   Accessories: Scarves, kerchiefs, sashes, and other silk accessories purchased here would be part of an outfit of Fine Clothes. Scarves and sashes purchased individually run from 5gp to 10gp depending on the color and embroidery (if any), and kerchiefs range from 5gp to 2gp depending on size and hue.

Layout

The ground floor is taken up mostly by Robelard's fine shop, displaying a bewildering paradise of silk in gem-rich hues. Robelard has a deal with a variety of local clothiers: they allow him to display their wares as examples of what can be done with his silks, and he promises to provide his customers with the means to contact them should they see something they like.   His shop also includes a pair of small tea salon rooms, for sitting in luxury with customers discussing their needs and generally catching up on the gossip (usually while Mindimer makes tea and fetches silk swatches). Most of the rest of the floor is made up of storage space (including stairs down into the basement storage), though a small entry off of Hassantyr's Street provides jakes access for the shop, and stairs to the offices and apartments above.   The second floor is set aside for offices, which Robelard rents out to other professionals. The two-room office Robelard has claimed for his own, with the smaller chamber used for entertaining clients. The office that faces Hassantyr's Street is currently empty, while the middle two are leased by a scribe who specializes in calligraphic letters and invitations, and a moneylender. There are also a small cluster of jakes at the front of the building for its occupants. A wide set of stairs leads to the third floor above.   The third floor has two apartment suites (Modest to Comfortable accommodations), both of which have three total rooms. Robelard claims the southernmost one, and rents the other to a tenant, the Watch-wizard Emthrane Ilbar (who works at the nearby watchpost) and her daughter Ydalla (a rowdy twelve-year-old).   The basements are large, but mostly unfinished. Robelard uses the outer chamber to store bales and crates of his wares, but has largely left the inner chamber untouched.

Staff & Notable Folk

Irdinhalyr Robelard (NG Chondathan human noble) is a young silk merchant. A handsome face and a dashing wardrobe goes a long way to bolster his business, and he doesn't hesitate to take advantage of both. He is a middle son from the Robelard clan of textile merchants out of Baldur's Gate, in Waterdeep to make a name for himself out of his family's shadow.   Mindimer Garun (N Tethyrian human commoner) is Robelard's man-about-shop, tending to cleaning and fetching when he is needed. He is also learning the skills of keeping a shop, as well as some of the textiles importing business. Mindimer is only a handful of years younger than Irdinhalyr, and a fetchingly handsome fellow as well, with dark hair and piercing green eyes.   Emthrane Ilbar (LN Illuskan human Watch wizard WW) is a member of the Waterdhavian Watch, and a wizardess of some skill. Robelard has accepted magical wardings for his shop as rent multiple times, which suits both of them quite fine. Emthrane is a single mother, raising her daughter Ydalla (CG Illuskan human).   The offices on the second floor are rented by Gwyrsel Spidernib (N half-elf commoner), a scribe with the Scriveners', Scribes', and Clerks' Guild, and by Theldan Maryn (NE Chondathan human noble), a moneylender with backing from both House Cassalanter and the Jewelers' Guild. Story Seeds   The Goods are Bad: Robelard has found a way to make some of his unused basement space turn a little coin by permitting a somewhat shady “mercantile specialist” he met in the taproom of the Cliffwatch store some goods there. But it's disappeared, and his new friend is...unhappy, it might be fairly said! Eating into the Profits: Something is eating the silks in Robelard's showroom! It only ever happens at night, after everything is closed up. Robelard wants to know what it is, and wants it to stop.
