Arc 1-4 - Session 12 - The Hidden Tower of the Treacherous Shaman Report
General Summary
The Grant Moot gets underway as the group sees that all remaining five tribes have gathered and their secret that binds them is revealed, all of the heads of the Lizard Tribes were granted the gift-curse of Lycanthropy. The pariah status of the Tiger Tribe was finally evident as the only mammal lycanthrope in the Lizard Tribes. After making their vows and getting the ceremony underway, the Master of Ceremony revealed to all that in order to stand against the Pale Lizards the warring groups must stand together under the banner of a new Lizard King. After some jockeying amongst the various leaders, the lizard tribes broke out to see whom would be the first to claim the Lizard King's crown. However, the Master of Ceremony pulled the Keepers aside.
Revealing that he knew that they were Keepers by their marks, he instructed them that they were to select the new Lizard King but the crown was an ancient tradition that must be adhered to. They should go find the Lost Jewel of the crown and that would then allow them to select whom they believed should be the next king. The jewel was stolen by the treacherous Last Shaman and spirited away to his tower, which was then burned to the ground by the enraged tribes.
Agreeing to the task, the Castaways encouraged the Blackthorns to go compete for the crown which they did eagerly. Making their way through the path towards the hidden tower, they encountered another fey shrine which the group began to practice a stylized opening ritual. After spending a few hours in effort, the portal opened to three hideous boggans. They offered knowledge in exchange for a future favor, which Kwon agreed to eagerly. The boggans quickly abused Kwon's trusting nature and departed no new information, holding him to his end of the bargain at some unspecified time. It was a harsh lesson learned.
Making their way to the old tower, they found it in ruin with ancient black marks where it was burned. The top half of the tower had collapsed, leaving stone and ruin everywhere. However, after spending some time they found a dark cellar entrance which lead them to an extra planar space of a flying fortress in the clouds. Scattered across this impossible fortress were twelve doors, only four of which were active. At the far end was a magically sealed display case with a floating ruby, easily designed to fit inside a crown. At the base of the pedestal were three lights, all dark. Deciding that meant that they had to go through the portals to find the activation switches, they picked their first door.
They were teleported to a roaring plane of fire and magma, sealed inside a magical cage was two serpents made of pure fire and a large, angry salamander from the plane of Fire. He looked eager to vent his frustration on anyone he could get his talons on. Before them they say a switch inside a similar sealed cage and before the cage were five large floating blocks. Each had a different symbol on them. After some trial and error, the group managed to figure out all of the actions that they had to take in order to unlock the switch but deny the salamander the escape he so desperately desired. Returning to the central fortress, they found one of the lights on the ruby's pedestal alight. Their assumption was correct.
Entering the second portal, they found a room with three items with levers affixed to the outside of the force cages. Inside were a javelin, a ring, and a cloak. At the top of each of the force cages was a brightly colored gem of different types. Deciding that they would try their luck, they flipped all three levers at the same time and the portal behind them winked out of existence. As the cages disappeared the gems crashed into the ground and summoned forth three massive elementals. The group valiantly fought to try to wait until the portal reopened, thirty seconds later, but unfortunately the force of nature proved too strong. They were then shunted out of the planar and back to the material plane where they languished until they were revived. Luckily Achilles' familiar managed to escape with one of the rewards, the ring of water walking.
