Torvin Kharne

Torvin Kharne (a.k.a. Fursuit, Walking Carpet)

Biography

Mercenary bands are a common thing in Draconia. When a group of people get fed up of the circumstances that they live in as lesser races, they tend to find other ways of freeing themselves from their shackles. Becoming mercenaries and forming groups are one of the easiest ways to do that. In some cases, there are some groups that are just born into that lifestyle. One such example of that would be Gnoll clans.   Gnolls are amongst the rarer races that are present in Draconia. Bands of them are typically wiped out due to their violent nature and psychopathic tendencies. For the most part, they represent everything that the dragon-races of Draconia view lesser-races as: Uncivilized, brutal, primal and barbaric. However, there are some Gnolls that escape this stigma and become educated in more ways than just killing. Those that do so generally end up in the same circumstances as the other lesser-races; enslavement. The lucky few that can make it to Ruxan are able to enjoy the extended freedoms.   The individual known as Torvin Kharne hails from one of these Gnoll mercenary bands, a specific one known as the Bloodragers. Born on the plains of Ruxan, he was born to the Kharne family of the Bloodragers, specifically to boost their population. At this point, the Kharne family-line was beginning to dwindle. Their division within the group had been suffering heavy losses due to risky jobs that they had taken. His father and mother were both killed a few years after his birth in part due to these jobs. An army regiment was sent after them in retaliation for a job they had pulled shortly before Torvin's birth. It was this attack that nearly wiped out the Kharne line. The only survivors were Torvin and his older brother Klonghyr, who assumed control over their regiment.   For years Klonghyr led their group through more missions, breeding and sowing more Kharnes along the way to increase numbers, while raising Torvin. He trained him in various forms of combat; swordplay, bow and arrow, throwing weapons and even a very basic aspect of magic. As he grew older, their personalities clashed. Torvin didn't appear to fancy the mercenary lifestyle, while Klonghyr thrived in it. This created a schism between the two of them and caused a rift which would not be mended. The subsequent clashes of thoughts and perspectives also created issues within the regiment, as those who sympathized more with the younger Torvin also began to consider a lifestyle not drenched in blood and gore.   The camps that they inhabited divided themselves in half. Each half supported a different brother, and the infighting began from there. Klonghyr and his harem continued creating new heirs that would partake in the fighting, leading to an imbalance in the halves that gave support. Eventually the conflict spilled over and a chunk of the group supporting Torvin were killed by Klonghyr's bloodthirsty children. This only created more strife between the brothers as Torvin began to lose much of the respect for his brother. While his brother had always tried to convince him of embracing his lifestyle, he had never resorted to killing his own kin and members. Any respect that was left was completely lost when it was revealed that Klonghyr had ordered his children to act in the manner they did; the final bridge was burned.   The two brothers agreed to do one last job together before parting ways: A simple killing job. They would be joined by a young prodigy who was beginning to gather his wings as well. The job was going to pay well and be easy, with no issues. But the person they attempted to kill turned out to be a much more powerful fighter than expected. Klonghyr and his heirs were killed in a brutal battle, but the young prodigy was able to kill the target before he himself was killed. Torvin kept his distance from the involvement besides initially tracking the target; the idea of an "assassination" job was not his style; he preferred a more honorable fight.   When the dust settled, and he came across the remains of his kin he was sickened... but also oddly relieved. He no longer had to worry about his family hunting him down one day as he might have feared. Knowing the bloodthirsty ways of his kin would not continue was also a weight off his shoulders, as he'd never be associated with such acts now that they were gone. Even the thought of Klonghyr's harem members seeking revenge was quickly put out of his mind when a week later they were also strung up by the gallows for their intimate relationship with Klonghyr. At the age of 16, he was all on his own.   As the years went by, Torvin did what he had to in order to survive. He took solo jobs that would ensure he wouldn't kill anyone in a "murder" style. As he gained a name for himself in the solo field, the prodigy that had joined him for the job that went awry also began making a name for himself, and they formed a repertoire of sorts. They would work together a few more times over the years, gaining a mutual respect for one another and their respective skills.   One day, after essentially retiring to the region of Briggs on Chromaticos, Torvin was approached by one of the men who offered him that awry job; Zilvaroth, the White Dragon Overlord. He told him of a meeting of the Council of Dragons on Quirin Umer that would be taking place soon. He knew of Torvin's skills and the coming discussions about forming a defense team. He gave him his invitation to the meeting, that would eventually lead Torvin to being place on Draconia Defense Force 12, along with the young prodigy he had worked with before: Reyviri.
