Stellara, Child of Light and Shadow

Goddess of the Moon (a.k.a. The Moon Maiden)

According to myth before they went on to create the Elder Dragons Umbra and Aurora had a daughter together, Stellara. While the elemental Primevals maintain physical form and wander the world, the gods of light and shadow occupy more ethereal roles. It is believed that the sun is Aurora while the darkness of the night sky is Umbra, and their daughter has taken the form of the moon. She mimicks the sun, moving across the sky and shedding light upon the world. But Stellara is fickle, constantly cycling when she is in the sky between night and day and waxing and waning the amount of light she exudes.   Some versions of the myth go on to claim that Stellara's willful nature displeased both of her parents, who each sought to control her for their own ends. They say that the Primevals of Light and Darkness only resolved to create the Elder Dragons in response to what they viewed as the failure of their firstborn. Each crafted their new children alone, that they might have complete control in this second venture. Those who believe in the veracity of this story then might conclude that there is a degree of sibling rivalry between the Elder Dragons and the Moon, though suggesting such a thing openly would be considered blasphemous by many.   Though her favor is said to be fickle, she is also and entity of order: particularly the order of life and death. Like Stellara, life flows forth from Aurora and returns upon death. Those who would seek to subvert this order with unnaturally preserved or prolonged life will draw the Moon Maiden's ire. This goes doubly so for the necromancers who would seek to bind souls back to false life as risen. Worshipers of Stellara are compelled to cleanse the Imperium of the undead at all costs.   Worship of the Child of Light and Shadow is typically a secondary aspect of people's religious life. Like her parents, the lack of proximity as an active, sentient participant in daily life makes her a much less tangible diety. Still she is not without her devotees, most notibly her eponymous Stellaran Knights: zealous mercenaries of a skill level to compete with the Knights of Cleansing Flame or the Valkyries, though their numbers are significantly smaller.
