Fragments of Creation

The Chroniclers claim that in the beginning, as at the end, there was and will be only Primus. The Dragon of Time formed the four primevals are aspects of the world itself, manifestations of the physical elements, likely at or very near the beginning. They also birthed the 5 dragon curses and 5 dragon blessings, incarnations of the fundamental forces of light and darkness. Reality has coalesced into these entities, and they are intrinsically tied to it. But Primus’ work was not finished. At least 10 gemstones were also formed, each a piece of pure creation caught up in the formation of the world: the Fragments of Creation. Primus then employed great craftsmen of ages past, who wrought for them settings of power, that their energies might be harnessed by those with the might to do so. But there is a fundamental truth about these Fragments: they are wholly separate from the primevals, dragon blessings, and dragon curses. None may be wielded by these ultimate powers of the world directly. Instead, Primus confers his gifts upon those around whom great moments in time revolve. Fragments find their way into the hands of mighty heroes and villains of every age. And when their great and terrible deeds are completed, the artifacts are lost again until their next time of import. Naturally, masters of these mighty implements attract attention from those great and small. A dragon lord may not possess a fragment for themself, but may contract its wielder into their service. And so it is, has been, and shall be until the end of time. Entities of great power and import receive Primus’ gifts. Some view them as blessings, others are burdens, but all are shaped by them.
