Blackcoal Island
The domain of the Black Mysts, the name Blackcoal is a slight misnomer, describing the appearance of the island rather than its composition. In truth the island is the remnant of a dead underwater volcano thrust up above the waves. As such the ground is hard and the soil barren. There are some precious minerals to be mined from its depths, but the ground is hard and mining shafts quickly fill with seawater. Most of the economic production of the island comes from fishing, but this too is not enough to support its populace. No, their primary concern is containing the forces of the the Dragonlord Tenabrius. House Myst considers itself the arch enemy of the black dragon, and uses its vampiric powers to combat him wherever possible. As such the island is much beloved by its other neighbors across the waters, who happily trade and send them aid to continue their fight.
Nestled into the caldera of the old volcano is the Coalfort, the castle seat of House Myst. There is housed the vampire and zombie armies used to combat those of the Putrid Marsh. This is largely separate from the town on the southeast coast of the island. There a small but diverse population of humans, drahkai, smallfolk and others have made their homes. They work to support House Myst while the undead army protects them in return.
