The Triangle

Overview

The Triangle is the religion developed around the three gods known to the continent of Tyoka, Sorrow, Speed, and Strength. First practiced by the desert dwelling Arbriden people, this religion has also been adopted by the Dargonian people.
Origins
The ancestors of the Arbriden people stumbled across a mysterious shrine in the middle of the desert close to the river they would go on to settle by. After much studying, these people named the shrine the Shrine of Tears, for it was said anyone who touched the sharp stones felt the uncontrollable urge to sob. Yet instead of staying away from this structure, the people continued to visit it and search for secrets, convinced that power resides deep in the area.   Still before the Arbrid ancestors developed their writing system, it was said that a woman had opened up the shrine and came into possession of an odd orange stone that granted her power over a smaller form of lightning. It is disputed whether of not she truly gained these powers or even if it was a woman at all, as all tellings of this were passed down orally for several generations. Regardless, she is believed to he the first Priest of the Triangle. The stone become known as Sorrow, and it was thought that power came from it, and that it might be a physical form of a deity.   Decades later, with this nation developing into what are now known as the Arbriden people, explorers discovered a second shrine, named the Shrine of the Winds, for the never ending winds in the immediate region, a flat plain sitting between the desert of the Arbriden people and the mountains of their neighbors, the Iksen. Once again, a stone was found inside that granted power, this time a pink stone that gave dominion over wind and air. This stone was named Swift for the increased agility its Priest seemed to have.   In time, commerce began between Arbrid and Iksa, introducing the Arbridens to a third shrine, the Mountain Shrine for the extremely tall mountains surrounding it. A yellow stone hid within, granting strength and power over the earth, and was named Strength.   By now, Arbrid had connected the similar looking stones as related gods, with the belief that Sorrow was the strongest. In a harsh land lacking in simple joys that other regions held, the Arbriden sought relief from the hardship of living in the desert, but were reluctant to leave their home. As there were two gods that embodied strength and speed, these physical qualities were seen as a pathway to joy, some unknown counterpart to the god of Sorrow. From there, the religion of the Triangle was born.
Path to Salvation
The Triangle demand piety to them and them alone. Through their Priests they speak their will and their will is for people to use their speed and strength to improve not only themselves but the wider world. Each god has a Priest that has been granted a sliver of power, though there are others that take the title and act as another stepping stone between the common folk and the gods. These priests have no power and are not able to hear whispers from their god.    All of life is suffering, from sorrow, pain and death. By serving the gods, one forges a path towards joy in the after life. The ways to do this are simple, making this religion appealing to many other nations on the continent, including the Dargonian people who eventually have conquered all nations except the hardy Arbridens.   It is believed that the gods have a deeper, truer will, one not even known by the Priests. Seeking to fulfill this will is not a requirement to find salvation, though some believe doing so might grant everlasting life or it would forever banish the hostile desert conditions the Arbrid people made their home in, bringing permanent joy to all.
Connection to Dosjorya
As the Iksen people, the ancestors of the Dosjoryan people, never adopted this religion, knowledge of it remained behind as settlers built a new nation. Knowledge of the three gods became forgotten, and none of them were able to connect the Triangle gods to the gods known to the Gendirlo. Sorrow, Strength, and Speed are three of the Six gods in eternal war with the gods of the Two, Maker of Gods and Destroyer of Gods. Long before humans began recording history, and perhaps even before humans created the concept of civilization, the continents of Dosjorya and Tyoka were once one landmass, but when the gods split the land, three shrines ended up separated from the other five and the Gendirlo who built them.   Among those gods whose shrines remained in Dosjorya is the god known as Joy, the embodiment of the ideal that Triangle adherents seek in their lives. If the Arbridens or Dargonians were to discover the existence of this god, the underpinnings of their religion would radically change.
