Haarton Fort

Haarton Fort is the seat of the Barony of Haarton and the place from which Baron Haian Meliamne sends out his forces to patrol the wilds of the Barony.
Often the patrols are forced to deal with rampant poaching as the game in the surrounding lands belongs to the Baron (and technically the Count of Dorwine) 
Because there are no real settlements of note in the Barony, Haarton Fort is very much like a frontier fort than a Baronial castle. Sitting on top of a large, natural hill, it is a squat structure with a single set of stone walls and a large bailey inside. This holds almost all the garrison and administrative quarters, as well as he Baron's private apartments.

Denizens

Currently there is an enthusiastic mood of anticipation in the Fort as everyone awaits the birth of the Baron’s first child. 

Garrison

The garrison here is small and overworked as there is a lot of ground to cover. They are, however, well trained and well equipped by the Baron and many have experience in dealing with roaming bandits and the occasional monster.

Alterations

A magical ward has been placed on the door to the keep of the castle that is said to keep out intruders as long as the rightful Baron lives.

Architecture

The fort has been well maintained over the years and is a comfortable place to live. It has been constructed entirely of stone taken from the surrounding area. The Bailey itself is a large, three storied structure with walls over 5’ thick. The main entrance is a reinforced door on the second level, accessible by a flight of stairs. The surrounding wall is 10’ thick and 15’ in height. It is pierced once by a gatehouse with a drawbridge that spans a 15’ wide by 30’ dry moat filled with spikes.
