"Fox" Hunting

In years gone long since past, kitsune were hunted for their tails in the belief that a kitsune's tail could be used as a talisman to enhance their magic.

Rationale

It is believed that the idea for hunting kitsune for their tails came about through humans observing the beastkin's marked affinity for magic and the aptitude demonstrated by those with a greater number of tails. At some point, humans began to believe that a kitsune's magic was housed or channeled through their tails and came to the conclusion that if they used those tails, then they would be able to better use magic as well.

Legitimacy

The practice has largely been abandoned and outlawed both to ease tensions with the vulpine beastkin and because what scholarly research that has been done into kitsune tails as talismans has yet to offer any proof that they work to begin with. Despite these, though, some still hunt kitsune and sell their tails on the black market.

Consequences

Understandably, the history of this practice and it perseverance on the black market has severely tarnished relations between humans and kitsune as well as beastkin in general. It is not uncommon for beastkin to tell their children tales of human hunters stalking the wilds outside their villages in a similar vein to how humans use fairytales to warn children to stay away from dangerous areas or scare them into behaving.
In an effort to rebuild diplomatic relations as well as promote humanitarianism in general, human societies including the Kingdom of Eloir have made so called "fox" hunting illegal along with the trading of talismans made from kitsune tails with severe punishment. If caught, a perpetrator will face sentencing ranging from ten years in prison to execution depending on how involved they are proven to be in the trade.
