Starfall

Starfall is a large military complex currently occupied by Military Garrison Command Domeris. Starfall is located close to the capital, while also being defensible due to two rivers merging at the site. The old Domerian fortifications remain, but the Lorandian Free Forces have established secondary and tertiary lines consisting of trenches, barbed wire and machine guns. Starfall was established to check any possible rebellion originating from the capital, and it continues to serve that role to this day.

Demographics

The majority of Starfall's inhabitants are soldiers or officers serving with Military Garrison Command Domeris. Nearly every specialization within the Lorandian military is present to some degree, with logistics officers, crux pilots and combat mages all present to some degree or another.    The rest of Starfall's populations are civilians, both from Domeris and Lorand, working for the Lorandian military or the occupation forces in some manner. Due to the general breakdown of the MGCDs administrative duties over the years, these positions have decreased over time. There still remain a few propaganda officers and administrators ensuring that supply lines and republican directives are carried out, but it's becoming increasingly clear that Domeris will only be brought into the fold of republicanism through miltiary action.

Government

General Kléber, commander of the MGCD, also acts as the de-facto administrator of Starfall. The Lorandian military bureaucracy is well equipped to manage the fort, and generally maintains a higher standard of governance compared to Domeris. The rank-and-file soldiers are also allowed, as per republican decree No.107, to elect representatives which serve as a direct communication line between the officers and the enlisted soldiers, though General Kléber's popularity has not merited such an election as of yet.

Defences

Starfall is defended by several lines of fortifications, all constructed to modern standards. Although large sections of the overground barracks and administrative facilities lie beyond the fortifications, enough underground facilities have been constructed to comfortably house the entire garrison within the defensive line. The outermost layer consists of a minefield, which gives way to barbed wire. A line of trenches has been dug behind the minefield, with machine gun posts ready to cut down any attackers. The roads and rail link are the largest weak spot in the first layer, though Starfall's location alleviates this problem to a degree. The capital of Darchen lies south from Starfall, with its southern lying river having to be crossed to get to the capital.   The bridges across the river have been expanded due to the increased traffic from the garrison and are vital to ensuring proper supply of the fort. But to ensure that the fort can be defended, explosive charges have been placed on structurally critical portions of the bridges. This allows the garrison to detonate the bridges at any moment, cutting off the road link and thus the weak point in the defensive line. The road links from the north and east are covered by pre-sighted artillery.   The inner layer of defenses consists of a large steel reinforced concrete bunker complex with several subterranean levels resting on a sand cushion. This bunker complex has been constructed around the old Domerian castle, which has been reinforced and repaired with magical expertise from the Arcane institute of Arenel, the premier magical institution within Lorand. While the castle is an imposing sight, modern artillery would most likely reduce it to rubble, although the bombardment would have to be rather prolonged to crack the intricate spellwork that covers the castle. The castle was maintained primarily due to its use as a Crux airfield, as its elevated position allows Crux pilots to engage their flight spells without the use of scrolls or assistance from a combat mage.   Two rotating and retractable 155 mm long artillery pieces have been placed within the bunker complex, as well as three 75mm retractable field guns. While several additional 75mm field guns are present within the defensive lines, though these are simply normal artillery pieces. Machine gun nests cover all approaches to the inner defensive line, and the two roads leading directly into the castle are covered by two revolving cannons, each with five 37 mm barrels capable of firing up to 68 rounds per minute.   The garrison itself is also a potent defensive tool, as Division Hart is equipped and trained to the best standards within the Lorandian Free Forces. Weather that will count for anything when they're put up against ten times their number in conscripted Domerians is a question that has yet to be answered.

Infrastructure

Starfall is a large military complex capable of supplying all the daily necessities for up to three divisions of Lorandian soldiers. A direct rail link to the fort has been created, greatly easing the delivery of food and munitions, and several of the roads around the settlement have been expanded to accommodate the additional traffic generated by the garrison. A Crux airfield has been integrated into the old Domerian castle that was once the core of the garrison, allowing Cruxes to take off without combat mage assistance.

Assets

Starfall contains enough munitions supply the garrison for a year even if supply deliveries were to cease, with vast underground storage chambers having been hollowed out beneath the complex. The stores consist of artillery, guns, ammunition, magical scrolls, and a stockpile of preserved food. While the stores are vast, General Kléber has raised doubts as to how long they would actually last if the garrison were to be put under siege by Domerian forces. The ammunition and shells provided were estimated to last a year based on combat reports from The Bleeding War, but with the vast expansion of the Domerian military, ammunition expenditure in a renewed conflict may be far higher than anyone suspects.

History

Starfall was established 200 years ago, when the house of Aves had grown increasingly concerned about rebellious elements within the capital of Darchen. As the strength of the Domerian military lay in it's Cruxes, the head of the royal family would often be forced to take the field wielding Majesty, and as such the capital would be left in the hands of the extended royal family. After one succession crisis too many, a castle was constructed in a defensible position not too far from the capital.   This castle would hold loyal Crux knights, and a garrison of regular troops, ready to rapidly make their way to the Capital and ensure that loyalties were not wavering. The garrison's isolation from the intrigues of the royal court meant that a posting there would come at a cost of political influence for young nobles, but that very same isolation allowed the monarch to have more confidence in their loyalty. Though ultimately the threat of the garrison intervening in the capital's affairs was more than enough to destroy several rebellions before they escaped the planning stage.   Starfall would prove it's worth one last time during The Twin Coups, managing to warn Gerald IV about Andria Aves's takeover of the capital. The garrison would do little more than that during the coup, as Gerald IV and his army were wiped out in an act of treachery before they could intervene. The garrison would surrender soon after, acknowledging Andria as queen in exchange for pardons for their crimes against her.     Starfall would then be abandoned, only for the United Republics of Lorand to take it over months later during peace negotiations. The placement of Starfall was ideal for the headquarters of the Military Garrison Command Domeris, and soon the tricolor of Lorand would fly over the castle.
