Military Garrison Command Domeris

Military Garrison Command Domeris, or the MGCD, is the official designation of the Lorandian garrison forces within Domeris. General Kléber is the official commander of the MGCD, a fearsome and tenacious leader. Their chief responsibility was originally to supervise a promised referendum on the monarchy, but with the prospects of said referendum becoming dimmer by the day, the garrison has resigned itself to carrying out policing duty, checking the worst excesses of the Domerian armed forces. The forces of the MGCD are split between four regional commands, and a central command element residing in the former royal stronghold of Starfall.   Comprised of 6 divisions from the Lorandian free forces, the MGCD maintains garrisons in Vardia, Lowriver, Komeria and Lestia. The regions of Lower Vardia and Aronica have been deemed to hostile to garrison, and the MGCD has essentially absolved itself of all responsibilities within those regions until they are no longer active battlefields. Due to the garrison forces having been continually stripped down over the years the garrisons ability to seriously check any rebellion in Domeris is doubtful at best. Nevertheless, General Kléber continually petitions Lorand for more troops, and has concentrated an elite and modern force within Starfall ready to strike out at Darchen should hostilities resume.
Although small in number, the MGCD is comprised of elite veterans from the forces that conquered Domeris, and many soldiers within it are still ideologically dedicated to their original mission. Many MGCD officers fight zealously against corrupts Domerian industrial captains or military officers, as their mandate grants them the ability to execute Domerian officials they deem to be taking actions that harm the people of Domeris. Lorandian influence in Domeris is fading, but Lorand has always been a mailed fist contained in a velvet glove, and the MGCD will fight to the bitter end against the enemies of freedom and equality.

Composition

Manpower

Although it was once over a hundred thousand men strong, the MGCD has slowly been cannibalized by the Lorandian Free Forces the need for professional soldiers in other theatres grows. As it stands the six divisions of the MGCD are comprised of roughly 60 thousand men and women in uniform, with a few thousand additional administrative staff residing in Starfall and other garrison strongpoints. Each division has had it's brigades demoted to demi-brigade status, indicating that the brigade in question contains half of the expected amount of soldiers and supplies. Heavy lobbying on behalf of general Kléber has managed to ensure that no more soldiers are transferred away, but the prospects of the MGCD being reinforced to full capacity is currently little more than a dream.

Equipment

The average Lorandian uniform consist of a cap, greatcoat, trousers and boots, along with an identification plaque. The dark blue cap is made out of cotton and cloth, with the patch of the battalion sewn onto the cap. A dark blue woolen greatcoat is worn with dark green highlights around the arms, which is closed by two rows of five buttons. Battalion numbers or patches are often sewn onto the collar of the greatcoats, contrary to regulation. The trousers are dark green, and made of wool. The boots are made out of blackened leather, and reach around ankle height when worn. The identification plaque is commonly worn around the neck, and consists of a nickel plate containing identifying information for the soldier wearing it. Cartridge pouches and baronet carriers are attached to the greatcoat.

Weaponry

The weapon of choice for the Lorandian infantryman is the M-33/R43 rifle. First introduced more than 20 years ago, and revised only 7 years ago. The 8mm bolt action rifle has become an identifying symbol of recent Lorandian expansion. Capable of firing up to 45 rounds a minute in the hands of a trained soldier, the rifle has proven to be a durable and capable weapon, and utilizes and 8 round tube magazine. A bayonet can be attached to the underside of the barrel to effectively turn the weapon into a spear if the need arises. In terms of artillery, the MGCD makes do with an outdated but still effective stock of mortars, field guns and the odd railroad artillery cart. Lorandian combat mages are issued the M-43 automatic pistol for self defense, but are generally expected to rely on their spells for offensive power.   Junior officers are equipped with the six shot M-29 revolver, and a ceremonial sword. Senior officers are generally assigned a Crux weapon to allow them to utilize the telepathic abilities of a Crux to communicate with the Crux signal corps and issue orders.   Officially only four distinct mass produced Crux models are issued to the MGCD, but unofficially general Kléber has been building up a stockpiled of last generation Lorandian Cruxes in order to boost the MGCDs crux corps. The M-44 "Liberation" sword type Crux is the most common Crux within the Crux corps, though some squadrons still use the M-29 "Flow" model. Crux subjugation squadrons use the M-35 "Crash" warhammer and the M-38 "Intrude" spear type Cruxes specifically to engage enemy non mass produced Cruxes.    The average Crux wielder in the MGCD is equipped with a full steel helmet, and a steel cuirass. Their arms and legs are protected with less sturdy studded leather armor, as the additional weight might compromise the integrity of the flight spell. In addition to the Crux weapon, a Crux wielder will also have a M-29 revolver in a holster attached to their hip, as well as a pouch containing emergency liftoff scrolls in case the Crux is stranted on the ground with no nearby combat mages to facilitate a liftoff.

Vehicles

The MGCD makes heavy use of rail travel, with each regional command having a supply corps attached in charge of the Lorandian trains assigned to the region. When moving beyond the rails, the MGCD relies on horses and carts to transport larger formations. The attached cavalry demi brigades usually patrol the countryside on horseback, while the infantry tend to be stationed in military bases across the regions urban centers. Flying Crux elements are occasionally used to deliver messages or packages over long ranges, but this is only done in rare circumstances. When dispatched, the division Crux signal corps rely on the innate telepathic abilities of Cruxes to transmit messages to other Cruxes across long distances. The MGCD prefers to relay peacetime messages through telegraph, and the Crux signal corps are rarely used at the moment.
