“I’ve never seen anything like it. We were pinned down and the whole skeleton horde came raging down the valley at us. Then that fancy preacher in gold armor unveiled that huge white ball. He said something strange and then it exploded in blinding golden flames. Those skeletons couldn’t stop and every one of them burst into dust as they crashed into the light. That’s a day I’ll never forget.”The Radiant Orb Of Holy Flames is a large smooth sphere of unknown material that has enormous divine power. Legends say that this was once the head piece of the holy staff of the deity Luken, God Of The Sun And Light. When held and activated, the milky white orb bursts forth with brilliant golden flames that emanate from its surface. Although these spectacular flames give off a golden light in a 100 foot radius, they project no heat and are not hot or harmful to any that touch them. So far as is known, only lycanthropes and the undead are hurt by the holy flames and radiant light.
Functions
This divine artifact has many known special abilities. Almost all require the orb to be held by a devout believer. However, these believers do not have to be clergy or even worship the same deities. Early reports say that the orb can create a repelling field around it that prevents any lycanthropes from entering that area. Any were-creatures that try to enter or touch the field are immediately burned and injured by its radiant light. Another ability is that it will boost all attributes by a small amount to any allies of the holder within its aura during times of battle. Additionally any ally that is injured here suffers less damage when within its range. Perhaps the most beneficial yet limited trait of the relic is its healing capabilities. It can heal any wound that a person has sustained, but only works once a week for that individual. Once a month the orb can cure any disease for any one person. It can also break any curse that someone has, but will only work once for that person’s lifetime. A little more unnerving characteristic of the artifact is its ability to draw the undead to the orb itself. However, as they get closer to the orb, the undead are slowly destroyed and turned to dust before they can actually touch the orb. A more recent discovery is that the orb can accelerate the growth of the nearby vegetation and that the holder of the orb can control those plants as well.Mechanics & Inner Workings
It remains a mystery as to how this powerful artifact exactly works, but there seems to be a consensus that this device is powered by intense divine energy. It has formidable passive and active abilities and it takes great fortitude, concentration, and will power to hold and activate many of its amazing capabilities.
Manufacturing process
Although there are many claims to this orb by many organizations, no one knows for certain how this powerful relic was created. The most accepted theory comes from the Lucien legend of how their patron god took off the spherical head piece of his holy staff and gave it to one of the citizens as means of protection during their constant battles with the undead and lycanthropes of the region. The Keepers Of Natures Circle reject this story completely and claim ownership of the orb.
History
This potent artifact has been used many times throughout the past with its first reference occurring during the founding of the Lucien Kingdom about 2000 years ago. Legend says that it was given to a young woman by the god Luken so that she could defend her town from the horde of lycanthropes terrorizing the area. She then either gave it to the Sisters Of Sorrow or may have actually been a part of their founding membership. They traveled from town to town healing the injured and cursed. The newly stabilized towns joined together to establish the Lucien Kingdom and the Matrons Of Life were founded to steward the kingdoms new line of healers. It is believed that they were either given the orb or borrowed it at this time.
After many years of relative peace the kingdom was besieged by armies of the undead, at which point the Golden Paladins were formed to fight back against the unnatural menace. Things were going badly until they acquired and used the holy relic to drive back and destroy the undead hordes. The orb remained with them until they brought it to bear in the Skeleton War about 243 years ago.
Details are murky, but at some point near the end of the war the Keepers Of Natures Circle obtained the artifact and took it with them, securing it in the Immanis Forest. It remains here on its rose quartz pedestal at the center of the Canopy Of Natures Repose until this very day.
Significance
As a significant holy relic with several powerful abilities, this orb has become very important and highly sought after. This divine artifact is crucial to many groups and organizations which has led to numerous attempts to retrieve it, both secretive and forceful. It now resides in the Canopy Of Natures Repose with the Keepers Of Natures Circle, who view it as theirs alone. Other groups that lay claim to the holy relic are:
The Kingdom Of Lucien, who believe that the orb was initially given to one of its citizens by non-other than Luken, God Of The Sun And Light, and therefore belongs to them by primary ownership.

The Healers Guild at the Clararton Curative Clinic in Bartolara, who feel that since they have the largest and most dedicated facility for healing, that they would do the most good with the artifact.
The Enemies Of Undeath, an organization who wants to use it to fight the undead forces from across the land.
The Spirit Monks Of The Lifespark, who claim that they have and enlightened need to harmonize with the orb in order to make themselves a more powerful foe of evil.
The White Wands, whose artificers say that the orb needs to be studied and replicated so that several artifacts can be made and used over a much wider part of the world.
The Matrons Of Life, whose high priestesses believe that the holy artifact should be in the care of those serving Alacrita, Goddess Of Life And Healing.
