Iona Stones
"Iona Stones"
Are round, smooth, white stones, with images of people painted on the outside. The people depicted on the outside are housed and preserved in suspended animation inside of the stones. These range from average everyday people to the more significant. One set of stones found in a cave, is of a whole village that preserved themselves before the The Sundering, with the hope that they would be released when the danger had passed.
These stones were discovered high up in mountain caves, on a small island chain in Iolite Lake. Iona was initially founded as a small mining town, searching for Iolite Gems on the islands. The jewels are particularly favored by diviners for their properties of “clear vision”. One diviner, Evie Eques, foresaw the approaching destruction by The Sundering. She tried to save the people from destruction by creating the “Iona Stones”. The stones would preserve the people inside of them until the disaster was over and they could be released. In order to preserve them all, she had to cast the final spells and be left out of the process. She drafted a book called The Ivory Iona, describing their location, purpose, history, and releasing procedure in case of something happening to her.
