What I told my parents is that I do not want to destroy their world, I merely wish to find my own, even if it means that I will not live in theirs. I can always visit them if I feel like it.
With the War of Misunderstanding having ended and the Xalnan and Veniran societies mixing, many of the traditions of both fray, to the dismay of the elder generations.
New ideas and thoughts come from all over and the youth are soaking them up. Often they are even trying to seek out these ideas, travelling the world.
Those who have lived traditionally are resenting the change, but the few times they tried to shut it down have resulted in public demonstrations and overturning of rulings by conclaves.
Culture
Major language groups and dialects
Most speak Venna as their primary language, but knowing at least the basics of Alni in order to more easily communicate with the older generations of Xalnans is common. Some of the words that do not exist in Venna, for instance the word for "king", are usually imported and then changed slightly in order to be more easily pronounced.
Shared customary codes and values
Treating others with respect should not stop you from finding your own future.
If someone claims to have experience, ask if they have only experienced tradition.
Ideals
Beauty Ideals
Due to the difference in anatomy between the species it not super common to find overlapping ideals of beauty, instead trends in clothing and adornments guide how the population looks.
The excpetion is that clenliness and being neat is seen as a great virtue. There is some friction between species as Venirans dry bathe in sand, while the Xalnan species use water. This in turn means that the sometimes the expectation of what counts as clean is not the same.
