Alteration

Alteration is the study of magic and how it can be used to physically change the world around a caster. When magic is not being regulated and it forms storms in the world it will often change the environment around it from making waves of stone to turning a green forest into a wasteland. Casters that use alteration do this to transfigure the appearance of objects and it is frowned on in many worlds to use this magic to transfigure a living person or creature. The Shifter Dragons use alteration to shift from dragon to mortal forms without injuring themselves and use this type of magic to maintain Portals.

Manifestation

When alteration magic is being used either by nature or by a caster it will always change something about what it is being used on such as turning a wooden cup into a metal cup or creating strange features in the landscape. This magic can be used defensively or offensively but is usually dark aligned because regardless of how it is used it destroys some feature of the world around it. This can be the case in a caster who is not as well trained and doesn't know the fundamentals of the magic as well. In the cases of people who know what they are doing the magic can be less destructive to the environment.

Localization

In worlds where magic is not regulated like Dolwen and Miyla the effects of magical storms often alter the appearance of the world. In the case of Dolwen most of the world's Surface is a desert because of the raging storms that turn everything into a wasteland. On Miyla the various mountains and bluffs sometimes look like ocean waves because of localized storms.
