Varrbru

"When strife comes our way, we fight, we fight for our people and our home! We are the ones that braved the storms, and now it is the thunder of our footsteps which is feared most from our nation!"
— A war-speech given by a Varrbru Tagrimiyr
The Varrbru are a people from the stormy highlands of Biyrbrutom, famed for their ferocity in battle and loyalty to their own.

Stormy Heritage

The Varrbru where some of the first to diverge when dintrals first spread from The Celetarii Region, venturing into the warmer climate of Biyrbrutom. Though the storms and rain in their new environment soon proved even harsher than the snow of the eastern mountains. This shaped the Varrbru, crafting a society around strength, ferocity, and cooperation.

In ancient Varrbru tribes, each dinu would often have a very specific role within the community, all working together to cover everyone's weaknesses. This idea of individual strength would persist through the ages, leading not just physical endurance to be valued, but all skills.

"...The other feathered beasts banished the creature, and away it flew, scheming for revenge."

Myths and Legends

Varrbru Myths are often related to the nature of Biyrbrutom, giant beasts, the harsh weather, and the rough ocean. Storms hold great importance in Varrbru culture, and often have special meanings in their legends. Karakgo'ro are a staple in Varrbru myths, their innately imposing nature and their mostly peaceful nature towards Dinu naturally securing their position in Varrbru legend. It is often believed that Karakgo'ro are deities or guardians of the sky itself.

Clothing, Equipment, and Art

In Varrbru culture, practicality is valued over style, often things that have no purpose besides decoration are considered a waste of time and materials. However Varrbru are known for their ability to combine functionality with beauty, and so often their equipment and attire becomes their main expression of art and creativity.

Clothing
Tough leather and furs that can withstand the near constant rain are the most common clothing. Varrbru, both child and adult, will often customise their own clothes over time with depictions of their favourite stories, things from nature, or even their own accomplishments. Parents will often use these pictures to teach their children how to sew and fix their clothes, and so most in the culture are skilled with tailoring.
Weapons and Armour
Though blacksmithing is a much more specialised skill, it isn't uncommon for Varrbru to customise their weaponry too. Whether through simple charms and accessories, to gilding in the metal or carvings in the wood itself. Varrbru weapons are very sought after for this reason. In Varrbru families a particularly beautiful weapon is often passed down through generations, each owner adding something to it. These weapons are mostly ceremonial.
Tapestries
Varrbru tapestries are famed throughout Dindeyyin for their detail and beauty. Thanks to the common skill of sewing within their culture, tapestries became a way to record stories and events. Often they will line the interiors of inns, homes of the rich, and official military buildings. Many Varrbru work on a tapestry as a hobby after their day's work is over, using it alongside the decorated sewing of their clothing to aide in retelling a story.
Music
The music of the Varrbru is influenced heavily by their history of battle, trying to replicate the crack and boom of thunder with their war drums and footsteps. This led most Varrbru music to be very focused on the percussion element. After making peace with Celetarii and setting up trade routes, many tarii instruments found their way into Biyrbrutom, these instruments were adapted by the Varrbru, adding more melody to their signature music. Though drums are still the main component, string and wind instruments can also be heard in Varrbru bands. Most songs of the culture are either war marches, or tales told musically.

Language & Dialects

The people of Biyrbrutom speak Dinturiy, although, the Varrbru have a very distinct dialect from the common turiy, which is often described as harsher. Thanks to the tight knit tribes of Biyrbrutom long ago, The Varrbru also have many distinct regional dialects within the nation itself.

Ideals

Gender

Varrbru follow the system of Ü'rüleihrum, though unlike most cultures, they use the system more rigidly. In Varrbru culture, someones soul shape must match their role in society. In recent times, this societal rule has become more relaxed, only truly remaining intact in noble circles, where a difference of soul shape to occupation is met with disgust, rather than surprise like the regular dinu of Biyrbrutom.

Beauty & Physical

Varrbru tend to consider strong features and a physically tough body most attractive, though other body types are also appreciated. Skill in combat is often a desirable feature in a potential partner, and so

Skills
Above all, skill in combat is the most attractive thing for most in Biyrbrutom. Many Varrbru will challenge others to duels to hopefully charm their romantic interest.

Day'ohrum

Like most cultures in Dindeyyin, Varrbru value high Day'ohrum, especially considering the harsh weather of their homeland. Pregnant dinu will often spend a lot of time in the enviroment they want their child to adapt to, often camping outdoors for the full duration of the pregnancy alongside their partner and other family.

Morals

In Biyrbrutom, violence and war is seen as a neccisary part of life. Infighting is considered normal and needed to solve disputes. Though when under threat from an outside source, it is expected to put all dissagreements aside to defend together.

Tests of Ferocity

Varrbru, both friend and foe, will often challenge each other to duels of strength, either for fun or to resolve conflicts. These duels are seen as a chance to test their own toughness, making sure they remain ready for battle at any time. These duels are rarely fair, the parties involved having no issue using dirty tricks to win.

Calender

The Varrbru Calender is centered around the weather of the region. It is split into 8 months each with 42 or 41 days each. The calender begins with Me’ranitiyr, or the First Rains, and ends with Hu'rosemou; the Last Suns. At the very end and beginning of each torr according to their calender, Varrbru will host a six day ceremony to celebrate the return of the rain, 3 days in the old torr, and 3 days in the new one.
