Parliament of Devonia

The Parliament of Devonia is a bicameral parliament, based in Devonia City. The House of Representatives, which consists of 160 elected members, is elected in one member constituencies for 5 year terms, and the Royal Council of Devonia, which consists of members appointed for life by the Executive. Membership of the royal Council is capped at half that of the maximum size of the House of Representatives. Currently that is 80, although it currently only has 74 members.

House Of Representatives

Members of the House of Representatives are entitled to use the post-nominal letters MHR.
The current Majority Leader is Adam Walsh, the current Minority Leader is Maria Devereux. Chris Anderson is the Third Party Leader.
The current seat breakdown is as follows:
Conservative - 75
Liberal Socialist - 61
A Green Devonia - 7
New Devonian Century - 6
Workers United Party - 6
Independent - 4

The Speaker is non-partisan. The Current Speaker is James Marsden.

Royal Council

Members of the Royal Council are appointed for life, and are entitled to the post nominal letters MRC.

Structure

The Royal Council have more limited powers to introduce and veto legislation than the House of Representatives, although they are still a powerful and influential body.

Assets

The Parliament Building in Devonia City consists of two main chambers, plus a host of committee rooms and offices which are used by both houses of parliament.
