Devonia

Devonia is a nation state that occupies the island of the same name, and a number of smaller islands, in the Northern Ocean.

Geography

Devonia is an island in the northern ocean at around 45 to 53 degrees of latitude which is shaped roughly like a 'v' turned about 120 degrees clockwise. A mountain range runs along the centre of the western limb. It has a number of outlying islands, the largest of which is called Alia.

Fauna & Flora

As a temperate island, Devonia's "default" flora is deciduous forest, especially around the edges. The medium height mountain range that runs north to south along the western limb of the island is high enough to be covered in snow most of the year, and tends towards pine forest. The main "wilderness" area is towards the eastern end of the north-eastern limb of the island.
There are no large predators on the island, although there are still a reasonable number of wolves in the forest around the eastern edge of the mountain range.
The waters around the island are home to a wide variety of sea mammals, sea birds and fish.
The human population, including outlying islands, is around 33,000,000. The capital and largest city is Devonia City, which has a population of around 4,000,000.

Natural Resources

Devonia sits on large coal deposits, although most of the mines have now closed for economic reasons. There are also a number of large oil fields around the island, and therefore oil and petroleum products form a major part of the exports of the country.
