Angels

Legātus Divinus

Angels are the only race not in some way created by Man's usage of magic. Rather, they were created by the gods to live as a servitor race. They originally served as messengers and ambassadors, since the gods feared early Man wouldn't have been able to accept their divine forms. However, once those tasks were done, they simply served however the gods wished, typically as simple servants. As a part of the terms of peace that ended The War on Heaven, Angels were given full free will and set free, able to live as any other member of the Divided would. They resemble Humans save for a slightly unnerving, artificial feel to them. Wings sprout from their upper backs, typically covered with white feathers, and allow them to fly.

Physical Attributes and Appearance

Since Angels were originally created to be mere servants, they have some odd biological quirks. They have large, usually white, wings to allow flight. Also to this end, they have very light bones and a higher center of gravity than Humans. This would cause balance issues, were it not for their wings' ability to compensate for it. Along with their bones being easier to break, Angels also have less overall durability than Humans. However, with a fairly significant energy expenditure, they are capable of massively boosting their natural recovery speed. Quite notably, their bodies are perfectly designed so as to prevent illness, malformation, or mutation during birth or development. Their wings are particularly sensitive and easy to damage, but also remarkably strong and flexible. Angels' eyes are typically a bright silver, blue, purple, or pale red in color. Typically, Angels' wings fall on a spectrum from white to gray, but they can be entirely different colors on some occasions (most commonly in hybrids)

Magical Attributes and Skill

Angels are adept at many forms of magic, with the notable exceptions being Elementalism, Black Magic, Telepathy, and all forms of Biomancy save for healing, at which they excel. Their spiritual reserves are quite impressive, but their regeneration leaves much to be desired. Their fine control of magic is impressive, and their large-scale control is decent enough. However, they are extremely susceptible to magic, as well.

Senses and Perception

Angels' senses are no more impressive than Humans', but they are able to see typically invisible magical energies with the same effort a Human might use to cross their eyes.

Genetics and Reproduction

Angels reproduce as normal, save that their menstruation happens far less often than Humans' does. Angel hybrids tend to have oddly colored wings, which is to say that their wings typically have a color to them. In some cases, the wings will never fully form in an Angel hybrid. Half-angels tend to mature only mildly slower than their other parent's race.

Growth and Lifespan

Pure-blooded Angels mature quite slowly, taking until their mid teens to reach puberty, and maturing fully by approximately 30 years of age. Once fully matured, Angels cease aging in any notable way. They are theorized to be capable of living forever, however cases of this are by their very nature not yet confirmed.

Naming Traditions

Angels originally took the name of their creator god, with a linguistic marker denoting that they were simply the property of that name, rather than the bearer of it themselves. Some Angels have kept or passed on this style of name, leading to what most would consider odd and religiously significant names, such as Sabriel, Aninel, Arachiel, and the like. Aside from that, their family names were typically chosen by the newly freed Angels long ago, and as such vary wildly, but are generally elegant sounding in some way or another.

Culture and Customs

Though no longer filling their role as servitors, Angels are typically still quite proper and polite, though they have an occasional tendency to be a bit condescending about it. Some Angels consider themselves to be better than those of other species, and are occasionally quite stuck up about it. Given that they were saved by those other races, many find this hard to tolerate.

Dietary Needs

Most angels tend to have a very strong desire to eat candy, chocolate, and pretty much anything sweet.
Etiquette Tips
Touching an Angel's wings, or the area where they connect to their body, is considered very rude and invasive, mostly due to the fact that they're quite sensitive.

General Opinion
Many people don't like Angels because of their 'uptight' and arrogant nature, but most still see them as at least technically polite and friendly, and usually reliable.
Fun Angel Fact!
Angels' wings would likely be easier to use if they were located lower on their body, but the gods preferred the shoulder blade location, so Angels have an unusually high center of gravity. Those who aren't good at using their wings to counteract this tend to be quite clumsy!
