Ranglagan Anuhaer

In old Daskar, the Daskari people practiced a tradition called Ranglagan Anuha, "wedding face painting," in which a bride and groom met the day before their wedding to paint one another's face and decorate each other's hair.   For some brides and grooms, the tradition was something they planned for and practiced. Face painting was an elaborate and well-established art form in ancient Daskar, and some Daskari young people practiced that art and were quite proficient. For them, the Ranglagan Anuha tradition was something they looked forward to. For most others, however, the face painting tradition was more than a little terrifying, as the bride or groom was expected to be able to paint an attractive pattern or design on his or her partner's face, and if one did not have the necessary skills, a humiliating mess would be the nearly inevitable result.   And so, brides and grooms would hire the services of a Ranglagan Anuhaer, a professional wedding face painter, to teach them how to paint an attractive design. Sometimes, the couple would meet with the Ranglagan Anuhaer together, so they could create attractive matching designs for their faces, and the face painter would help them with both the design and with learning the proper techniques for painting it. In some cases, the Ranglagan Anuhaer was just a relative that was proficient with face painting, but often, the services of a truly professional Ranglagan Anuhaer were engaged.   Since the founding of the Kingdom of Sudland, the Ranglagan Anuha tradition has been practiced less and less often in Daskar, so in the present time the Ranglagan Anuhaer profession has died out almost completely. There are still many proficient face painters, but few or none direct their skills specifically to face painting for couples being married.
