God / Goddess

Old, but not Old God old

"With their breathes they make, with their hands they give and they take. Without their Divinity where are we? Who are we and who can we turn to in a world without Light?"   -Pillars 2:12
What Makes a God a God? This is a question that while simple at first, became more and more specific as time went on. These beings came into being at the beginning of the Age of Creation when The Creator created them, Aphara, and the Elvalen. With two distinct types of beings we can begin to see the difference between the Gods and everything else.   The Elvalen, the name for those that eventually became Elves, are considered to be Fey. A very distinct creature from the Celestial beings that the Gods are. At the time of their creation the differences were rather clear. Firstly, the Elvalen did not live as long as the Gods. The Gods had no need to care for time, they were and are immortal. Nowadays the Elvalen are known for their longevity, how they could not die of old age, and if they died of other means they simply came back. What is important to know is that this was not always true. At the very beginning, the Elvalen had lives comparable to what the Elves have today. This was the case until Yemine, birthed the Archtrees, which was the source of the Elvalen's indefinite lives. Which leads to the second major difference: Magic. At the moment of creation, magic was only possible for the Gods, the Elvalen were unable to do such things. Even Celestial beings that the Gods created after the moment of creation lacked the ability to manipulate The Well in the way that the Gods could. It wouldn't be until Adderine shared the secret of spellcasting with mortalkind that this barrier was broken.   While the things that seperated the Gods from other creatures have slowly gone away overtime, the distinction is still made. With the current requirements for one to be called a God becoming more refined overtime. Leading us to the specific definition that we have today. Otherwise powerful creatures could claim to be Gods themselves. Typically when this occurs, as rare as it is, a new category is added the lexicon of scalars. Archdevils, Archdragons, Archfey, Archdemons, Old Gods, all have been given titles to express their power, without letting them claim any sort of divinity.

Requirements

To be considered a God or Goddess in the eyes of other Gods and mortalkind, one must be a Celestial being that was created directly and intentionally by The Creator at the moment of creation.

Duties

Originally the Gods and Goddesses were created to rule over Aphara. Since the Divine War the specific duties that a God or Goddess have are self determined and typically fall in line with their domains.

Grounds for Removal/Dismissal

Only once has a God or Goddess been stripped of their rank. After the Divine War, when Aphara burned, The Forbidden One was stripped of their title and became the first to be called Archdevils. By looking at this one and only example, the only way to be removed is to be the loser in an interdiety conflict.

History

The most important events associated with beings that hold the title of God or Goddess are the moment of creation, the Divine War, the legend of the werewolf queen, the Infernal Concord, the Pennantant March, Infernium, and the Exodus of Desire.

Cultural Significance

Within most cultures, outside of those who descended from the enemies of one or more of the Gods or Goddesses, these beings are placed above all else. They are the children of The Creator, the only remaining aspect of their divinity and as such are the subject of the majority of their reverence.
