Fortified Egg Porridge

In a society dedicated to medicine, survival, and research, food is seen not only as sustenance but as a tool for health and longevity. Fortified Egg Porridge reflects this philosophy—it is practical, nutrient-dense, and designed to support both the physically active laborers and those recovering from illness.

This dish is a staple in the camp, particularly in the Medical District, where patients recovering from injuries or malnutrition are prescribed this porridge to regain strength. It is also commonly eaten by workers in the Farm District and Business District, as it provides slow-releasing energy that keeps them productive throughout the day. Because it is soft and easily digestible, it is also given to the elderly and children, ensuring that even the weakest members of society receive proper nutrition.

Your body needs strength to heal, and Fortified Egg Porridge is one of the most effective foods we have for aiding recovery. It is gentle on the stomach, rich in protein from the eggs, and provides essential vitamins from the grains and vegetables. You should aim to eat one to two bowls per day—one in the morning to give your body energy to repair itself throughout the day, and another in the evening to sustain you through the night.

What Is Generally Eaten with This?

The most common pairings include:
  • Thyme and Honey Tea – boosts the immune system and soothes the throat
  • Chamomile and Mint Infusion – aids digestion and calms anxiety
  • Reishi Mushroom Brew – supports longevity and mental clarity
  • Dandelion Root Tea – detoxifies the liver and promotes overall health
A hard biscuit or small piece of dried fruit may also be eaten alongside the porridge for additional energy, particularly for those who engage in physical labor.

When Is This Eaten?

Fortified Egg Porridge is most commonly eaten in the morning, as it provides sustained energy throughout the day. It is a staple breakfast for farmers, researchers, and guards who need to stay alert.   However, it is also served in the Medical District throughout the day to patients recovering from injury, illness, or malnutrition. Elders and children often eat a lighter version in the evening as a comforting, easy-to-digest meal.   During harsh winters or times of crisis, the porridge is distributed to the population as an emergency ration, reinforcing its role as the “lifeblood” of the camp.

Recipe: Fortified Egg Porridge

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup oats or barley – provides sustained energy and fiber
  • 3 cups water or bone broth – hydrates and aids digestion
  • 2 eggs – high in protein and essential fats for recovery
  • 1/2 cup diced vegetables (carrots, leafy greens, or wild herbs) – supplies vitamins and minerals
  • 1 tsp dried medicinal herbs (such as chamomile for digestion, thyme for immunity, or dandelion for detoxification)
  • 1/2 tsp salt (if available) – helps with electrolyte balance
Instructions:
  1. Bring the water or bone broth to a boil in a heavy-bottomed pot.
  2. Add the grains and cook on low heat, stirring occasionally, until they soften and begin to break down (about 20–30 minutes).
  3. In a separate bowl, beat the eggs lightly. Slowly pour them into the hot porridge while stirring continuously to prevent clumping.
  4. Add the diced vegetables and continue cooking for 5–10 minutes until they are tender.
  5. Stir in the dried medicinal herbs and salt. Let the porridge sit for a few minutes to allow the flavors and nutrients to infuse.
  6. Serve warm, optionally garnished with additional dried herbs or crushed dried mushrooms.

History

Fortified Egg Porridge originated in the early days of the camp when food supplies were uncertain and malnutrition was a major concern. Medical professionals sought a way to keep people healthy, energized, and resilient to disease without relying on high-maintenance or perishable ingredients. Eggs became a key ingredient because the camp’s poultry Farm ensured a steady supply, even when other protein sources were scarce. Grains were either scavenged from old stores or cultivated in limited quantities, making them an efficient base for the dish.

Over time, as the camp expanded and knowledge of medicinal plants grew, researchers began incorporating herbs and fungi with known healing properties. This turned the dish from a simple survival food into a functional meal believed to enhance immunity and prolong life. Today, Fortified Egg Porridge is synonymous with health and survival in the camp. Some even believe that continued consumption helps protect against Sonohoka Syndrome, though this remains unproven.
In our pursuit of knowledge and survival, we have learned that food is more than mere sustenance—it is medicine. The Fortified Egg Porridge, enriched with herbs and nourishment, has sustained our researchers for years. Some believe that its daily consumption fortifies the immune system and extends life itself. Whether this is science or superstition, I cannot say with certainty. But I do know this—those who eat it rarely fall ill, and in times like these, that is no small miracle.

For faster recovery, medicinal herbs should be blended into the porridge, tailored to your specific condition. If you are fighting off an infection, goldenroot and dried bitter nettle will help purge sickness from your body. If your strength is waning, a touch of ginseng will restore vitality. For deep, lingering fatigue, I would add crushed elderleaf and thyme to support your immune system. And if your lungs are weak, mullein and licorice root will soothe inflammation and help you breathe easier.
