Episode 03 | It Came From the Deep

In the Shorebend Correctional Facility's infirmary, a group of scavengers was quickly working to grab as much as they could from the abandoned medical supplies. Just outside the infirmary, our heroes tried to concoct a plan for getting through the locked and barricaded door. Zymera and Preston tried to talk their way in, but the scavengers inside didn't seem to be responding as they'd hoped. Thorne tried a stealthier approach, sneaking his way through a ventilation duct to get a view of what was happening inside the room. He saw 3 people loading supplies up into the ceiling, where a fourth person was busy securing their haul.

Thorne reported his findings to the others, and he and Hogan decided they would spring an ambush while Preston and Zymera continued to distract their targets. Things turned violent as the scavengers tried to defend their haul, but they were no match for the heroes.

Once the scavengers were taken care of, the heroes quickly found the medicine they were after to take back to Cell Block B. They decided to go back through the laundry room. As they passed through, they came upon a large group of inmates led by a goblin from Thorne's past, Horton “Horty” Heward. It was quickly apparent that Horty was Thorne's former boss. While he seemed to be friendly, the heroes couldn't help but feel like they were in dangerous territory. Dangerous or not, Horty made no attempt to harm or hold the heroes. They were able to safely move on.

When the heroes returned to Cell Block B, they were greeted with enthusiasm. The survivors in the Cell Block were invigorated by the first good news they'd received since the tremors. Dr. Prommer was especially grateful to be able to help her sick patients. The only person who wasn't happy, was Sergeant Bradford, who was angry the heroes had chosen to ignore his request for weapons. However, he had already enacted a plan B. He'd sent several of his own SCOs into the flooding armory to retrieve supplies.

The heroes rested and spoke to some of the survivors. Thorne found out that SCO Piker was asking about a locket he'd found in the barracks the previous day. Hogan helped Dr. Prommer treat the wounded and sick. Preston tried to encourage a coup from Xenia Harfolk. Zymera connected briefly with Nadia, but refused to help her without more knowledge of what the radical elf's plans are.

They heroes suddenly heard a comotion. One of the SCOs Bradford had sent into the armory came running back into the Cell Block, panicked and bloody. His companions were trapped somewhere in the Western Corridors and something was trying to kill them. The heroes jumped into action, rushing through the western corridors until they came upon a violent scene. Two SCOs had locked themselves in a cell while a scaly Sea Devil stalked just outside the bars, seeking a way in to kill them. The heroes wasted no time jumping into the fray, but the Sea Devil was almost more than they could take. They barely managed to take the raging beast down.

The heroes freed the SCOs. One of them insisted they could still get to the armory to gather the supplies Bradford wanted. The SCO opened a door leading deeper into the prison, and a wall of water came rushing out of the flooded corridors. Both SCOs were lost in the black, salty water, and the heroes barely escaped the same fate by sealing themselves in a side room. In doing so, they found themselves cut off from all help and hope.
