Dr. Olive Besmertan Character in Val'Druen | World Anvil

Dr. Olive Besmertan

A sorcerer with a talent for transmutations and necromancy, Dr. Besmertan spent much of her early life suppressing one ability and living off the other. While necromancy was illegal, there were many manifestations of her sorcerous bloodline that she explored only in secret. After FoRA passed, it was as if a great weight had been lifted from her shoulders. No longer was she forced to hide her talents. In fact, she was able to profit from them greatly as an employee of Postmortal Services.

Dr. Besmertan's talent for discretion and willingness to do anything the company asked left her in prime position to take up some of the company's more sensitive projects. She was quickly transferred from raising leased corpses to developing experimental spells capable of creating undead for a broader range of purposes than sweeping floors and serving tea. Details of her work are closely guarded secrets and those secrets died with her shortly after the Seven Towers Explosion.

Mental characteristics

Education

Like many apsiring magic users, Dr. Besmertan earned her degree at Seven Towers University in the school of Transmutation. Even though her sorcerer talent presented far more powerfully in necromancy, she had no way to openly practice and study the craft in her time at the university.

Personality Characteristics

Motivation

Power motivated Olive Besmertan. She resented the years spent believing that her connection to necromancy was shameful, despite her having no choice in the matter. She channeled that resentment into a relentless pursuit of perfection in her magecraft once the ban on open necromancy was lifted.

Social

Hobbies & Pets

Dr. Besmertan created and bound a homunculus to her service as her capstone project in her senior year at Seven Towers University. She called it Kye, though she seemed to have no special attachment to it aside from using it as a tool and assistant in her work.
