Standard Calendar

The standard calendar used by many in Cotenil. It was made to make trade easier between all the different cultures and areas of the continent.

The Year

The year is divided into 10 moons with 35 days in each, which adds up to 350 days per year.

The Months

(Seasons for the countries with a temperate climate)
The year stars with the spring moons: Fox and Bear. They are the bringers of new and the rejuvenation after winter. The first day of the Fox is as long as the night, the years' first equinox.   The Jaguar moon is the start of summer. The other two moons are Eagle and Horse. The last day of the Jaguar and the first of the Eagle are the longest days, and that night in between is called the Fairy Night. This night is extra magical, because the veil between the living world and the flow of magic is very thin.   Autumns' two moons are Crab and Dragon. The first day of the Crab is the autumn equinox.   The winter and its' three moons are the last of the year. Snake, Rabbit and Goat. Just like in the summer, the night between the last day of The Snake and the first day of the Rabbit is magically special. This night is called the Night of the Eyes and is the longest of the year.

The Week

A week consists of 5 days, and 7 weeks make up a moon.   The week starts with Sunday. The first day stands for the rising sun and a new start.
Then comes Waterday, the day for cleanliness.
The third day of the week is Treeday. Stable and nurturing the day sits in the middle of the week.
Starday is the fourth day. The stars shining bright, enticing you to dream about the world.
The last day of the week is Moonsday. Guiding lonely or lost souls in the night, this day stands for guidance.

Special Days

This calendar is removed from any religions, so no special days are connected to any specific religion.   The year starts off with the Spring Equinox. The day and night are equally long, looking forward to longer days.   Fairy Night is the shortest night of the year. In some regions the sun never sets. This night is very magical, especially for light magic. Creatures such as fairies, unicorns and wood nymphs are more active during this period, and magic users who utilize visual magic, healing and soul magic have more power.   The Autumn Equinox is the second equinox of the year, and sitting in the middle it divides the year in a darker and a lighter half.   The Night of the Eyes is the longest night of the year. Like the shortest night, this is also imbued with a lot of magical power.

Eras in Time

A brief explanation of the different eras.

Era of Creation - E.C

A time when magic was everywhere. In everything that lived, every stone and even in the air; it was tangible. Gods trod the land and enjoyed using their powers to create new things, new lifeforms and histories. Few humanoid creatures lived among these gods, all in harmony.   Ruins from this era can be found scattered around in the world. Pieces of giant skeletons from leviathans, old buildings and areas of highly concentrated magic are sought after by adventurers, magicians and many, many more.

Sacrificial Era - S.E
