He stepped into the big ballroom. The ceiling was covered in stars and beautifully intricate pillars carried it high above his head. A strange glimmer caught his attention. He looked down at his feet where it originated and his eyes widened. The floor that was just some ordinary stone when he first saw it now shone in the colors of the rainbow. Slowly shimmering, flowing, billowing, the floor shifted colors in an area around his feet. He took a step back in surprise, and the shimmering followed him.

"Wha-" He couldn't even finish his sentence.

"It's beautiful, isn't it? It can feel the power inside you, magician."

Material Characteristics

The Seeing Stone is a marble-like kind of rock. It is usually white with specks and veins of silver in it, but when in contact with magic it reacts in a beautiful way. The color of the stone shifts into an iridescent glow and flows around the area reacting to the magic.
In its' raw state the rock is white, but usually heavier on the gray/silver side, though when polished the shine and clear white comes out. If polished with a special technique developed by the old Mithrand Dwarves it shines brighter and may even give off some of the color without a source of magic present. This knowledge however is old and sacred, the dwarves keeping the technique secret and only teaching it to those they deem worthy.

The Seeing Stone is found in the southern parts of Cotenil, among the rounded mountains of Bekjajöd.

History & Usage

History

This stone is a remnant from the olden days, a time when magic was more prevalent.

Cultural Significance and Usage

The stone is rare and mostly found in the possession of very rich souls or magicians. It barely holds meaning to the collectors, mostly owned as a show of wealth and only holds a decorative purpose.

In the magicians' case the Seeing Stone can help channel their magic. Some craft staffs with the stone, some amuletts and some magicians make rings or bracelets.

When not in possession of a magician, the seeing stone can help those who want to find those with magical abilities. Some use it to hunt them down, to do god-knows-what. It may even help uncover those with only a small fraction of magic, or those who don't even know they have the abilities.
