King Umar Ta-Jubal

King Umar, the leader of the Ta-jubal Family, for the past 40 years.  His physical throne resided in Asayahbat, amongst the vast wealth of his family and associates in the palace and gardens of the city.  
His title as King was self-given several decades ago as he wanted to consolidate power and make sure the family had at least one figurehead to rule over the people of the nation, and specifically the city.  Though the title of King holds power, it is not as widely recognized or respected as a typical vassal system, from the likes of Ghanarqa and Yarida.
During the reign of Umar, the Ta-jubal family ruled primarily as tyrants, and have further divided the wealthy from the poor.  Amassing as much wealth in their inner circle, the overall well-being of the citizens of the capital, Asayabat, have mostly suffered over the past few decades.  However, there is still a strong base of support for the ruling family due to propaganda, and the occasional political impact on their lives.  Namely, King Umar supported the movements in Asayabat (possibly for personal gain, but more likely to avoid revolt), to have slavery widely pushed out of the city.  Asayabat became a more progressive bastion for freedom over the past 30 years, though the practice is still in effect and a wide source of income - the industry now primarily resides in Ghanarqa.
Additionally, during Umar's reign, one of the most profitable trade goods of the past several decades was brought heavily to the forefront - Red Cavx Ore.  This has drastically boosted the ports economy, the structure of the local law enforcement, and lined the pockets further of the wealthy.  The trickle down from the surge in income has caused the city to expand, industry to grow, and more ships, trade, and tourism to come into the port.
King Umar fathered several children, both with spouses and concubines over the years and while the formal structure of the oligarchy has often shifted, the Ta-jubal family has always been the leading power in the region.  Umar passed away during The Growing of 1350 AN, some believe at the hands of the infectious Spongeblood beginning to sweep through the region.  It has caused as stir amongst the citizenry as the succession of power is never very clear, or which son or daughter will rise to lead the family.  
Currently, one of Umar's sons - Saab Ta-jubal - has risen up and started naming himself Sultan, rather than King.  Saying his father strayed too far from the influence of the teachings of Lachmarum, or Daemoth, and that it was time to restore the obedience of the people to the Lord of the Fallow.
