Somnium Reach PDF
Even before the war, the planetary PDF was seen as an honourable endeavour to join, those who had no will to aid in the markets or join the Mechanicus would instead join the PDF. Those who showed the greatest talent were then enlisted to the Olicanan Guard.
The PDF itself was initially split into two sectors, the Jurisdictional Guard and the Planetary Guard. Juristictional Guards (commonly known as "Jays", acted as the planets police force, while the Planetary Guard acted as the planets true military force. Both sectors allowed for progression into the Imperial Guard should they wish.
Shortly after the war with the orks began, the Jurisdictional Guard were absorbed into the Planetary guard to bolster their faltering numbers. Today, efforts continue to try and recreate the Jurisdictional Guard in order to reinstate law upon the planet.
After over eighty years of war, the training and marksmanship of most PDF soldiers could rival that of any imperial guard regiment, through their desperate resistance and adaptability, the PDF have become highly respected members of local society, with the few surviving veterans being treated like nobility in many parts of Olicana.

Training and Tactics
The PDF is primarily trained to operate as basic light infantry with some basic armoured assistance through specially trained operators. Most PDF squads make use of basic lasrifles, with a single marksmen bearing a longlas in each squad (if possible). With the loss of the Depot and the extended war with the orks, ammunition is scarce and heavily rationed, with many PDF squads risking "home cooking" their las-packs until they burn out or explode.After over eighty years of war, the training and marksmanship of most PDF soldiers could rival that of any imperial guard regiment, through their desperate resistance and adaptability, the PDF have become highly respected members of local society, with the few surviving veterans being treated like nobility in many parts of Olicana.
Structure
The leader of the PDF has become a point of some contention over the last few years. Officially, Captain Brooke has retired at the age of 103, with the newly instated head of the PDF, General Shambleburn, having taken full command. Unofficially however it is common news that Shambleburn looks to Brookes for nearly every significant decision regarding the PDF.
Under Shambleburn is a series of commanders, each responsible for their own collection of lieutenants. Every three months, each of these lieutenants selects their best soldier for the option to be moved into the Olicanan Guard, few pass up this opportunity.
