Flute of Fukanya
The Flute of Fukanya is a piccolo flute that can open Spirit Portals (including those in Nelor Trees). When certain tunes are played, the Spirit Portals will open to the flutist so they can enter the Spirit Realms. The same song can be played again to exit the Spirit Realms through that Portal.
Each Realm in the Spirit World has its own tune, and so can be used if the Spirit Portals don't open through conventional means. However, that doesn't mean accessing the Spirit World is that easy. Many tunes have been lost to time because some of the flutists who knew them are either old or dead. To preserve them, the tunes were carved onto stones or written on papers. But these were also lost to the Ice Age. The tunes are not taught in most places either, so people do not have a chance of learning the tunes. And there are those who know the tunes but do not have access to a flute. Even if they sing or hum the tunes, the Spirit Portals will not open.
The First Tunes
Stories say that this is because of the magic that has been infused within the Flutes. According to legend, the first flutes were crafted by a spirit called Lady Fukanya, who wished to escape the Mortal World from time to time with her lover. As she didn't want others to follow her, she created a realm in the Spirit World for herself and her friends and then she created the keys to the realm in the form of flutes. She crafted them and played her song into them, so it became the first tune. Fukanya gave the flute to her lover and taught him the song so he could access her realm any time. Later on, she created more tunes and more flutes as she travelled through the Spirit World. Each tune became associated with one realm on her travels, and she taught them to her lover when she returned. Eventually, she made more flutes to give to close friends and taught them the special tunes to play. The tunes were shared and the flutes were passed down for generations.
