Akuzo Island

Akuzo is a region of two islands in the south of the Floating Isles. The main one is called Akuzo Island, and is connected with the Element of Hydro. It is one of the most populous islands in the region despite The Ice Age reducing Natuzan numbers. The island is shared by two ethnic groups, the Akuzo and the Itsato. Because it is above the Shattered Lands, Akuzo Island is often the first line of defence against the Orcs, if there is hostility between the Natuzans and Orcs.

Culture

Akuzo Island is known for its watersports and marine engineering. In the past, they used to be continental travellers, so they kept those skills after the Ice Age. But the Natza Elders wanted closed borders to protect the Natuzans from external threats like the Phadoyan Eel. So very few people are travellers today.
In the past, people were known for their surfing. The tides of Phadoya Sea are usually at their best for surfing in the summer so the Akuzo and Itsato held surfing competitions all season. But Akuzo Island stopped holding them and banned surfing altogether because Phadoyan Eels were attracted to the commotion. That hasn't stopped some younger Natuzans from trying to surf in secret.

Inhabitants

The Akuzo and the Itsato are the two ethnic groups on the island, but they are often seen as one. When talking about all the inhabitants of Akuzo Island, people just call them the Akuzo for simplicity.
During the Age of Triumph, the two groups existed somewhat peacefully, but problems started with the Otleni Merge. It was a protocol created by the Elders of the day to create a united front during the Sentinel War. The idea was to create one unified tribe on each island, but the Otleni Merge ended up making the Akuzo the official tribe. This did not go down well with the Itsato, who felt erased, so they refused to merge with the Akuzo. It also emboldened the Akuzo, who now had actual claim to Akuzo Island.
So now the two groups are in a constant fight for ownership of the island. They tried to solve this by changing the way their Natuzan Elder was elected. Every time there needs to be a change of leader, they would alternate between the two ethnic groups. But this has not stopped the discrimination against the Itsato. In fact, the conflict between the two groups has only increased with time.
